A Look at the Raptors (2-5, 0-2 Liberty League) Bard enters Wednesday's contest 2-5 on the year, losing the past four games including a pair of Liberty League contests to No. 4 Union College and No. 2 RIT. Bard started the season off with an 8-3 win over SUNY-Cobleskill on March 4, then picked up its second victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent (9-6) on March 14. Alex Stone is in his second year at the helm for the Raptors, guiding the young team to a 6-8 season last year in his first term as a head coach.
Freshman John Palermo has had a breakout year for the Raptors in his first collegiate season, leading the team in both goals (16) and assists (4) through the first seven games. Sophomore Matt Livermore and freshman Blake Burnley have also ben solid contributors, combining for 15 goals and two assists for Bard.
Freshman Ben Baum has been the team's main option on faceoffs this season, winning 50-130 for 38.5% clip. Sophomore John Henry Glascock is the team's only goalie listed on the 2015 roster, playing all 420 minutes allowing 11.71 goals per game with a .529 save percentage.
Against Bard All-TimeVassar and Bard have met just once in the all-time series between the two schools, as the Raptors are currently in just their second season as a varsity program and first as a member of the Liberty League. Last season, VC earned a 15-2 victory at Weinberg Field on April 2, paced by three goals from
Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) and two from
Colin Cederna (Milan, MI/Saline).
Break Out GameSophomore
Sam Houston-Read (Waban, MA/Newton South) turned in perhaps his finest performance as a Brewer against Mt. St. Mary, notching four goals and four assists to help VC clinch the victory. Two of his goals against the Knights came in the final minutes of the second and third quarter to give Vassar back the lead, while he also scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to extend VC's advantage. His eight points are the most in a single game by any Vassar player this season, and he becomes just the fourth player since 2002 to record eight or more in a game. Houston-Read was named to the Liberty League Honor Roll on Monday for his
Extra-Man Improvement After starting the year 4-24 on man-up opportunities, the Vassar special teams unit has settled in scoring five goals on seven opportunities the past four games. Junior
Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) has scored two for VC over that span and leads the team with four on the year.
Streaks Sophomore
Liam Moriarty (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) has a five-game streak of scoring at least two goals currently in progress, and has notched a hat trick in four of those games.
Noah Parson had a seven-game goal and point streak snapped against Skidmore, while sophomore
Brandon DeStasio also saw his seven-game point streak end against the Thoroughbreds. Senior
Scott Brekne has a 15-game ground ball streak dating back to March 29 of last season, scooping up at least one in every game since then.
Mr. 300Senior
Scott Brekne made history against Mt. St. Mary (NY), winning his 300
th career faceoff at Vassar. Brekne has been highly effective for the Brewers at the restart this season, winning 41-60 for a .683 faceoff percentage.
Parson Making Moves Junior
Noah Parson is now seventh all-time at Vassar in both career points (96) and sixth in goals (67) heading into Wednesday's game. Parson sits behind Nick Cardillo ('10) on the all-time points list (101) and Christopher Toffoli ('12) on the all-time goals (73) list.
Parson is also inching toward the school record in man-up goals, coming into Wednesday's matchup with 12 in his career. He now sits just one extra-man goal behind Jack Gross ('12), who finished his Brewer career with a program-record 13 man-up goals.  Vassar is currently 4-0 this season when scoring a man-up goal.
