Last Time Out
Sophomore Sam Houston-Read (Waban, MA/Newton South) tallied a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists, as Vassar downed Mt. St. Mary College (NY) 17-12 on March 25. Leading by just one goal heading into the fourth quarter, the Brewers put the game away outscoring the Knights 7-3 in the final 15 minutes of play.

A Look at the Thoroughbreds (2-6, 0-2 Liberty League)
Skidmore has had a tough first half the season in 2015, carrying a 2-6 record into Saturday's matchup. Three of the team's losses have come at the hands of national ranked Williams, Amherst and RPI, while the Thoroughbreds have picked up victories over Babson and Clark. Skidmore pulled out to a 3-0 lead against No. 18 RPI on Wednesday, but the Engineers came storming back with nine unanswered goals to secure the 9-4 win. Senior attackman Josh Trachtenberg extended his scoring streak to six games, while sophomore attackman Jack Metzler scored for the fifth straight game.

The Thoroughbreds have struggled to find their rhythm on offense this season and have yet to score in double digits. Metzler and Trachtenberg have combined for 20 of the team's 49 goals this season, including 16 of the Skidmore's 31 goals over the last five games. The Thoroughbreds are 5-26 on man-up opportunities, while opponents have converted 10-26 extra-man opportunities.

Freshman Chris Baughan has started in the cage all eight games for Skidmore this season, holding a 52.7% save percentage and 10.11 GAA in his first collegiate season. Freshman Ryan Warnock has been the team's primary faceoff man, winning 60-118 for a 50.8% faceoff percentage.

Against Skidmore All-Time
Vassar is 1-24 all-time against the Thoroughbreds, earning the program's first-ever win last season on March 29. Brandon DeStasio (West Hempstead, NY/Chaminade), Colin Cederna (Milan, MI/Saline) and Sean Brazier (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) all tallied two goals a piece to help pace the Brewers to a 10-5 victory and the team's first-ever Liberty League home victory.

Break Out Game
Sophomore Sam Houston-Read turned in perhaps his finest performance as a Brewer against Mt. St. Mary, notching four goals and four assists to help VC clinch the victory. Two of his goals against the Knights came in the final minutes of the second and third quarter to give Vassar back the lead, while he also scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to extend VC's advantage. His eight points are the most in a single game by any Vassar player this season, and he becomes just the fourth player since 2002 to record eight or more in a game.

Extra-Man Improvement
After starting the year 4-24 on man-up opportunities, the Vassar special teams unit has settled in scoring four goals on six opportunities the past three games. Junior Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) has scored two for VC over that span and leads the team with four on the year. Sophomores Chris Billups (Watchung, NJ/Oratory Preparatory) and Liam Moriarty (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) have added one each for the Brewers during the three-game stretch.

Streaks
Noah Parson has a seven-game goal and point streak going right now, scoring in every game so far this season for Vassar. Sophomore Brandon DeStasio saw his assist streak snapped at five games against RPI, but still has a seven-game point streak alive with at least one point in every game thus far. Senior Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) has a 14-game ground ball streak dating back to March 29 of last season, scooping up at least one in every game since then.

Mr. 300
Senior Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) made history against Mt. St. Mary (NY), winning his 300th career faceoff at Vassar. Brekne has been highly effective for the Brewers at the restart this season, winning 37-53 for a .698 faceoff percentage.

Parson Making Moves
Junior Noah Parson is now seventh all-time at Vassar in both career points (96) and sixth in goals (67) heading into Saturday's game. Parson sits behind Nick Cardillo ('10) on the all-time points list (101) and Christopher Toffoli ('12) on the all-time goals (73) list.

Parson is also inching toward the school record in man-up goals, coming into Saturday's matchup with 12 in his career. He now sits just one extra-man goal behind Jack Gross ('12), who finished his Brewer career with a program-record 13 man-up goals.  Vassar is currently 4-0 this season when scoring a man-up goal.

Up Next
Vassar will be right back in action on Wednesday, April 1 to face local Liberty League rival Bard College at 4:30 pm on the road.
