POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 18, 2015) – The Vassar College women's fencing team will look to defend its team title from last year at the annual Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational, hosted in Walker Field House. The Brewers are coming off a very successful weekend at the Vassar College Invitational last Sunday, going 5-2 ,falling only to Cornell University and No. 6 Northwestern University

A Look At The Brewers (5-2)- Vassar College was dominant for the most part on Sunday during the VC Invitational, with all of its wins coming by at least seven bout victories.

Annie Innes-Gold (Northampton, MA/Northampton) continued to shine for VC at sabre, as the sophomore chalked up a .750 winning percentage on Sunday, going 15-5.
- Fellow sophomore
Kirsten Denman (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) was lights out on Sunday, as she posted a 15-3 record, knocking off a pair of Cornell University fencers, as well as 2015 NCAA qualifier Jennifer Yamin 5-3, along the way.
- The Brewers will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday afternoon, honoring their four graduating members

Amreen Bhasin (Cresskill, NJ/Riverdale Country School),
Maggie Shepherd (Sausalito, CA/Novato) and
Rachel Messbauer (Springfield, MA/MacDuffie School).

Olivia Weiss (Pittsburgh, PA/Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) and freshman
Rose Hulsey-Vincent (Woodinville, WA/Woodinville) paced the epee teams, earning a combined 26 wins.
- Weiss picked up a nice 5-4 victory on Sunday over Helen Foster of Northwestern University, one of last year's NCAA Championships participants.
- VC's foil squad was very strong this past weekend, going 41-22 on the day with all four fencers posting at least eight wins.

Mirit Rutishauser (New York, NY/LaGuardia School of Music & Art) posted a statement victory against Northwestern, knocking off Steph Chan 5-2 in foil. Chan earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament last year.
A Look At The Matt Lampbell Hudson River Invitational Field- Vassar will entertain seven teams at Walker Field House Sunday, as Yeshiva University, Marist College, West Point, LIU Post, CCNY, Queens College and Drew University come to town.
- The Brewers won all six matches last year in the Lampell Invitaitonal, earning the team title with a thrilling 14-13 win over CCNY late in the day.
- Drew University is led by NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional participant Sarah Silvestri, who placed 27
th in sabre.
- While the men's team will host mostly club teams this weekend, the majority of the women's opponents will be varsity squads, with only Marist and West Point sending club teams Sunday.
- Vassar's biggest test will come against CCNY and West Point this weekend, as West Point went 3-2 last weekend at the Vassar Invitational.
Up NextVassar will head to Sacred Heart University Sunday, December 6 at 10 a.m. to take on some of the best squads in the country, battling New York University, Harvard University, Penn State University, Princeton University and Temple University.
