MADISON, NJ (January 31, 2015) -- The Vassar College women's fencing team had no problems earning wins over Drew University and Lafayette College Saturday, earning a 17-10 win over the Rangers and a 18-9 victory against Lafayette.
In the first match of the afternoon, the Brewers (18-15) won all three weapon groups, including having the sabre and epee squads go 6-3. Sophomore
Olivia Weiss (Pittsburgh, PA/Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) went 3-0 at epee in the victory over Drew, while sophomore foil fencer
Elsa Stoff (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) added three wins as well.
Freshman
Kirsten Denman (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) went 2-0 against Drew, extending her win streak to eight bouts, while fellow freshman
Annie Innes-Gold (Northampton, MA/Northampton) breezed by her competition with three wins.
Later in the day, the Brewers got seven bouts wins from the sabre team in earning the triumph over Lafayette. Innes-Gold completed her perfect 5-0 day with two more victories, while Stoff went 3-0 to finish the afternoon unblemished at 6-0. Senior
Megan Lewis (Charleston, SC/Governor's School) posted a 2-1 record in epee, and Weiss went undefeated on the day with three more wins.
Vassar returns to action Saturday, February 7 at 10 a.m., finishing Northeast Fencing Conference action at Dartmouth College.
