POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 31, 2015) -- The Vassar College men's fencing team fenced host Drew University twice Saturday afternoon, as the Brewers earned both sides of the doubleheader with scores of 20-7 and 21-6.
Vassar (17-11) opened the day with the big win over the Rangers thanks to a solid 9-0 showing from the foil team. Vassar's sabre gang earned six wins in the first match of the day, while the epee squad went 5-4 to give the Brewers the win.
Junior captain 
Elam Coalson (River Forest, IL/Oak Park & River Forest) went 2-0 in the opening match, while sabre partners 
Eli Polston (Silver Spring, MD/Einstein) and 
Campbell Woods (Newport Beach, CA/Corona Del Mar) also added two wins. The foil trio of 
Tre Artis (Jamaica, NY/Benjamin Cardozo), 
Jackson Dammann (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greely) and 
Tom Racek (Clark's Summit, PA/Abington Heights) each went 2-0 in foil, and five different epee fencers added one bout win. 
In the rematch of the earlier match, Vassar upped its win differential to 14 in earning the 21-6 victory. Freshman sabre fencer 
Eric Lee (Fishkill, NY/John Jay) stepped in and won two bouts, while Woods added three more victories for the 7-2 sabre finish. 
Stefan Richards (Kingston, Jamaica/United World College Atlantic) earned his first two wins of the season at foil, and 
Roberto Maiocco (Springfield, IL/Sacred Heart-Griffin) went 2-0 against the Rangers. 
The Brewers finish Northeast Fencing Conference action Saturday, February 7 at 10 a.m. at Dartmouth College.
