What To Look ForThe Brewers are looking to regain the Invitational title after falling to City College of New York University last year. The could happen as the Brewers have gained some depth at some of the weapons they struggled with last year, as
Annie Innes-Gold (Northampton, MA/Northampton) and
Kirsten Denman (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) have bolstered the sabre and foil teams, respectively. If those squads perform well this weekend, it'll prove great support to the Brewer's strong epee lineup.
A Look At The Matt Lampell Hudson River Invitational TeamsThe Brewers will match up with seven different teams, fencing off against Queens College, Marist College, LIU Post, Army, CCNY and Yeshiva University. The big bout of the day will come against the Beavers, who knocked off Vassar College twice in this tournament a season ago.
Epee Hey HeyThe Brewer epee group this season had a great start to the season last weekend in the Vassar College Invitational, as all three starters of
Olivia Weiss (Pittsburgh, PA/Pennsylvania Cyber School),
Megan Lewis (Charleston, SC/Governor's School) and
Rachel Messbauer (Springfield, MA/MacDuffie School) each had 12 or more wins.
Good As GoldFreshman
Annie Innes-Gold has been great for Vassar thus far in sabre, and led the Brewers in total victories last weekend, earning 19 wins including a great triumph over NCAA qualifier Julia Greene.
In The DenKirsten Denman enjoyed a nice start to the season for the Brewers, as she went 16 of 21 last weekend in foil, winning two or more bouts in seven of her eight matches.
Off The BenchVassar sophomore epee fencer
Audrey Aller (Dubai, UAE/Lycee Franc Georges Pompidou) checked into the lineup for VC five times for Vassar, earning three wins last weekend.
Sabre SergeantSenior
Anastasia Stevens (Peterborough, NH/Contoocook Valley Regional) has done well captaining the team this year, and also helped the sabre squad with nine wins in the Vassar Invitational.
Stoff's Slow StartSophomore
Elsa Stoff (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) went 85-29 last year in foil as freshman, but dropped nine bouts last weekend. Last season, Stoff earned 18 wins in the season opening tournament.
Up NextThe Brewers will take a few weekends off before returning to the strip to take part in the Sacred Heart Invitational. VC will fence New York University, No. 3 Harvard University, No. 5 Penn State University, No. 1 Princeton University and No. 9 Temple University that afternoon, in what should be a great test.
