Men's Swimming And Diving Drops 186-103 Decision To NYU On Senior Day

    POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 25, 2014) – The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team battled in dual meet action against the powerhouse New York University Violets that resulted in a 186-103 defeat Saturday afternoon at Kresge Pool.

    Junior Luc Amodio (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and freshman Chris Cerutti (Mount Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) got things rolling for the Brewers with a two-three finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke with times of 56.22 and 59.43.

    The key races for Vassar were swam by junior Matt Weiss (Florence, MA/Northamton), freshman Anthony Walker (Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial) and sophomore Greg Cristina (Suffield, CT/Suffield). All three took first place finishes in back-to-back-to-back events. Weiss edged out Benjamin Ching in the 100 Yard Breaststroke by .07 with a time of 1:03.81. Walker easily won the 200 Yard Butterfly with a final of 1:59.82 and Cristina took the glory in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a 22.69 sprint.

    Walker also took second in a determined 500 Yard Freestyle. NYU's Bobby Chin out-touched the freshman by .12. Cristina took third in the 100 Fly with a time of 58.45. Freshman Patrick Lai (Chatham, NJ/Newark Academy) rounded out the top performers for the Brewers with a second spot placing in the 200 Breaststroke (2:25.56).

    The Brewers will next host the Vassar Sprint Invitational on Sunday, February 2 at 1:00 pm.
