ROCHESTER, NY (April 27, 2013) – The Vassar College baseball team picked up two vital Liberty League wins against Rochester Institute of Technology 9-0, 5-4 Saturday afternoon. The pair of victories puts Vassar in a tie for fourth place with University of Rochester in the League Standings. Vassar holds the tiebreaker with a better overall percentage against the Yellowjackets.
Both senior
Joe Lovizio and freshman
Connor Cucalon picked up their third wins of the season. Lovizio gave up only two hits in seven innings of game one while retiring six batters. Cucalon gave up four hits with one strikeout in the final three innings of the 10-inning nightcap. Sophomore
Johnny Mrlik pitched the first seven innings with five hits and three strikeouts.
The Brewers jump to 13-15-1 and 9-11 in the Liberty League. RIT falls to 5-13 in the Liberty League and 10-17 overall. The two teams finish their series tomorrow at noon at Tiger Stadium.

Nick Johnson had five RBI during the twinbill. He got things rolling for Vassar in the first inning with a single through the right side, scoring senior
Mike Perrone. Junior
Dave Robbins followed with an RBI single to left center field, bringing home freshman
Brooks English. Sophomore
Jason Garfinkel doubled to left center and brought both Johnson and Robbins home before the close of the first.
English and junior
Brett Zaziski brought home two more runs in the second for the 6-0 lead. Zaziski then scored Perrone in the fourth, followed by Johnson's two RBI double to right center for the 9-0 go-ahead score.
After RIT's Brian Brazee grounded out to second base in the bottom of the eighth and scored Walt Roman for the 4-4 tie, the Tigers and Brewers were forced into extra innings. Johnson reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Perone to score the game-winning run.
Johnson batted .500 on the day. He was 2-for-4 in game one and 3-for-6 in game two. Both Zaziski and Garfinkel had two RBI.
