Rochester, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team's season came to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers fell in the second game of the Liberty League Crossover Series against RIT, 5-3.
Vassar's record finishes at 13-20 overall while the Tigers improve to 21-12 on the season and advance to the Liberty League Championship.
How It Happened
- Vassar opened the scoring in the top of the first as first year Ethan Fox-Fernandez knocked in two runs with a single and a RBI groundout from classmate Jack Johnson put the Brewes ahead 3-0.
- RIT cut the deficit to 3-1 in the second on a solo homer from Sam Kulp.
- The Tigers trimmed the lead down to one at 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out RBI single from Jarin Moses.
- RIT evened the game at three on a RBI groundout from Rapp to plate Evan Kurtz, who led off with a triple, in the sixth inning.
- In the top of the seventh, Vassar put runner at first and second with one out following singles from first years Aidan Annello and Nick Kreatsoulas but RIT's Dylan Joseph induced a double play to keep the game tied.
- Mikey Zacher delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom half of the seventh as he blasted a two-run homer to give the Tigers the final 5-3 lead.
For The Brewers
- Fox-Fernandez knocked in two runs and scored once while first year Noah Townsend and sophomore Dash Edwards each tallied a hit and a run scored.
- Senior Jensen Bergman, first year Kieran McGrath, Annello and Kreatsoulas each garnered a hit.
- Junior Will Darrell started on the mound and took a no-decision after going 4.2 innings, allowing five hits, two runs, three walks and struck out four.
- Senior Cade Terada-Herzer suffered the loss in relief as he went 2.1 innings, giving up four hits and three runs.
For The Tigers
- Moses posted a 3-for-5 game with a double and a run scored while Zacher finished with two hits, including a homer, two RBI and a run scored.
- Charlie Slaymaker recorded two hits and a run scored along with Kurtz garnering a triple and a run scored.
- Kulp added a homer while Caelan Kim tallied a hit and a run scored.
- Jack Luensmann started and took a no-decision as he lasted just 0.1 innings, allowing two hits, three runs and two walks.
- Joseph earned the win as he went the final 8.2 innings, giving up five hits, no runs, one walk and struck out nine.
