POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 2, 2012) – A change of venue proved to be nice touch for the Vassar College women's fencing team that celebrated Senior Day at Kenyon Hall with a 3-1 afternoon with victories over Queens, Drew and Hunter and a loss to Yale.
Impressive performers on the day were
Katie LeClair at 6-0 in foil,
Tracy Bratt at 7-2 in sabre and
Caitlin Clevenger and
Megan Lewis both at 5-2 in epee.
Yale 19, Vassar 8
LeClair had an impressive round, winning all three of her bouts against a tough Yale squad in front of a wildly cheering Vassar crowd.
Katharine Sweeney added a win for a 4-5 squad mark. Epee was 3-6 and sabre 1-8.
Vassar 23 Queens 4
Epee was 8-1 with wins by Clevenger, Lewis, and
Rachel Messbauer. Foil rolled at 7-2 with two of the wins scored by
Anastasia Stevens. Bratt and
Jillian Josimovich were undefeated in sabre.
Vassar 21, Drew 6
Epee was undefeated in this round with Maggie Shepherd and
Amreen Bhasin checking in for wins.
Kathleen Konno was 2-1 in sabre.
Vassar 18, Hunter 9
Noelle Sawyer chimed in with a win in epee along with Clevenger, Lewis, and Messbauer.
Rachelle Brown earned a sabre win. Sweeney had two foil wins as well as Stevens and
Victoria Weiss with one each.
Now 11-13 on the season, the Brewers will travel to NYU on Thursday to face both New York University and Columbia.
