Women's Cross Counry Shines in Late Season Dual Meet

Sophomore Viviane Ford and the Brewers raced to victory at the Farm.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 2, 2012) -- The Vassar women's cross country team took control from the gun in a Late Season Dual Meet on Friday afternoon, racing to an assertive victory over SUNY New Paltz.

The Brewers finished the 5k race with a near-perfect score of 17 to beat visiting New Paltz, who had a total of 44.

The Brewers were led by sophomore Cassidy Carpenter, who broke the race open in the final 400m to finish first in 19:43. Sophomore Viviane Ford and freshman Ava Farrell were hot on her heels, crossing the line in 19:54 and 20:00, respectively, for second and third place overall. Junior Emily Garber followed close behind in fourth place, with a time of 20:11, and senior Arial Shogren finished seventh overall in 20:36 to seal the win. 

The women's cross country team will next compete on Saturday, November 10th at the Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Rochester. The race will start at noon.
