MONTCLAIR, NJ (January 18, 2012) -- The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team came within seven points of the lead with two races remaining in the meet, but Montclair State University held on for a narrow 128-107 win. MSU won the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle relay to clinch the victory.

“They had guys who could get up and win the events and we just didn't quite have enough today,” said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. “We've had three meets in a relatively short time and it's good we were able to give them a run for their money.”

The Brewers celebrate senior day with the final dual meet of the season on January 28 against NYU at Kresge Pool.

Senior diver Greg Sullivan kept Vassar in the meet as he set a pool record with a score of 476.30 in 11 dives in the 1-meter event, breaking the old record of 443. “Diving was a huge asset and Greg came up big on the boards,” said Prater-Lee.

Vassar opened the meet with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:57.15 but was shorthanded and had to exhibition the potential second-place finisher.

Freshman Chuck Hermann won the 100-yard backstroke from lane one in 1:00.93. “Chuck was outside smoke and had a great swim.”

Freshman Frank Driscoll had a come-from-behind second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:18.30. Sophomore Chris Wang was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:29.07.

Senior captain Jack Smart won the 200-yard IM in 2:05.66. He followed with second place in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.35.
