POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 21, 2011) – The Vassar College women's fencing team went a perfect 6-0 to win the second annual Matt Lampell Hudson Valley Fencing Invitational on Sunday at Walker Field House.
The Brewers improve to 10-5 on the season and will next fence on December 3 at Penn State.
According to head coach
Bruce Gillman, “the Matt Lampell invite is Vassar's chance to invite local college teams to Vassar. It provides them with an opportunity to field full teams NCAA style. When Matt was the Vassar head coach, he used to run a similar event that he called the River Rat.” Gillman said that Lampell, who recently turned 87 years old, was present to honor the Vassar seniors and present team awards following the conclusion of match action.
