POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 30, 2010) – Although the Vassar College men's swimming and diving team lost to New York University, 140-101, in Saturday's Senior Day at Kresge Pool, the Brewers displayed some impressive performances in their final dual meet of the season.
The Brewers fall to 2-5 and will host the Sprint Invitational on Saturday, February 13 at 1:00 p.m. in their final event of the year before the UNYSCSA Championships. The Violets improve to 7-4.
“It was great to see some victories against such a strong team,” said interim head coach Paul Kueterman. “ We had some incredibly fast times and personal bests which is encouraging to see at this point in the season.”
Sophomore
Jack Smart had an exceptional day, with two individual and one relay win. In his victory in the 200 Breast, Smart set a new personal best with the speedy time of 2:14.78, just 1.69 seconds off the current Vassar record of 2:13.19, set in 2003 by Ben Chung. Smart finished nearly three seconds faster than the second place finisher from NYU. Smart also won the 400 IM (4:20.57) and swam on the 200 Medley relay team that kicked off the meet with a win in 3:45.00. Joining Smart was freshman Nicholas Veazie, freshman
Mathue Duhaney and sophomore

Veazie earned two second place finishes, in the 200 Free (1:51.32) and 200 Fly (2:07.02), and Duhaney also finished second in the 50 Free (22.58). Senior
Jeremy Shiman, swimming in his final dual meet at Kresge Pool, notched a second place finish in the 200 Back (2:06.13).
The Brewers had a strong showing in the final event of the day, the 200 Free Relay, which NYU exhibitioned. The team of Duhaney, Molina, junior

Sophomore
Greg Sullivan continued to impress on the diving board, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against a large NYU diving squad. Sullivan scored a 269.85 in the 1-meter and a 304.73 in the 3-meter.
“The Sprint Invitational should be great for us in two weekends,” said Kueterman. “It's our last rehearsal before the state championships and we're hoping to continue our progress and swim our fastest at the end of the season.”
In their final dual meet in Kresge Pool, the Brewers honored Vassar's four seniors: Shiman, Lars LaPann-Joahannessen,
Dan Pierson, and
Andrew Yau.
