Men's Swim-Dive Falls to Montclair State, 157-132

Meet Results

MONTCLAIR, NJ (January 26, 2010) – Following a ten-day layoff from competition, the Vassar College men's swimming team faced a talented Montclair State University squad, falling 157-132 on Tuesday evening.

The Brewers fall to 2-4 and compete in their final dual meet of the season on Saturday, hosting New York University at 1:00 p.m. Vassar will honor its four seniors, Lars LaPann-Johannessen, Dan Pierson, Jeremy Shiman, and Andrew Yau on Saturday.

“We had some good swims today, but we also saw plenty we can improve on before our next meet,” said interim head coach Paul Kueterman. “We're looking forward to getting back in the pool on Saturday for our final dual meet and Senior Day. That should be a fun day and a big meet for us with just one event following before the state championships.”

Sophomore diver Greg Sullivan had a strong showing, sweeping the diving competition. Both 1-meter dives, Sullivan won the first round with a score of 267.38 and the second with 172.58 points.

Freshman Nicholas Veazie notched two individual wins, in the 200 Fly (2:08.11) and the 200 Back (2:04.53). Both wins came in convincing fashion as Veazie was over eight seconds faster than the second place finisher in the 200 Fly, and accumulated a cushion of nearly four seconds in the 200 Back.

Sophomore Jack Smart took home a win of his own in the 100 Breast (1:02.72). Additionally, although Montclair exhibitioned the event, Smart had the top time in the 200 IM (2:04.41) and placed second in the 500 Free (5:13.92), an event he does not generally swim.

Shiman notched a win in the 100 Back (57.56) and placed second in the 200 Breast (2:21.91), just .21 seconds off the winning time.

The 200 Medley relay team, consisting of Veazie, Smart, freshman Mathue Duhaney, and Shiman had a strong performance to open the meet, finishing in second with a time of 1:44.42.
