Meet Results

HARTFORD, CT (January 13, 2010) – Despite competing with a depleted squad due to JYA, injury, and illness, the Vassar College women's swimming and diving team put together a gutsy performance, falling to Trinity College, 170-124, on Wednesday.

The Brewers drop to 2-3 and have a ten-day break from competition before heading to Mount Holyoke College on January 23-24 for the Seven Sisters Championships.

Competing against a member of the very competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with a roster missing a number of swimmers, interim head coach Paul Kueterman was extremely pleased with his team's effort.

“We're somewhat depleted right now but everyone stepped up and it was such a total team effort,” said Kueterman.

Freshman Shannon Sara led the way with three individual wins, in the 200 Free (2:01.55), 500 Free (5:29.03) and 200 IM (2:19.71). Junior Samantha Jones nabbed two victories, in the 100 Back (1:04.59) and 200 Back (2:19.98). Sophomore Caroline Shannon also contributed two wins, in the 100 Breast (1:14.97) and 200 Breast (2:39.42).

On the diving board, sophomore Christie Musket had a career night, with personal bests in both events. Musket placed second in the 3-meter with a score of 197.50 and third in the 1-meter with 195.40.

“Christie had a great performance tonight,” said diving coach Tom Albright. “She's really coming along, as evidenced by two personal best scores.”
