NEW YORK, NY (February 11, 2009) – Vassar women's fencing made it annual trip to New York City to face two powerhouse fencing programs in host New York University and Columbia. In two tough bouts, the Brewers highlight came with the Epee squad, which registered a victory over NYU.
Now 13-14 on the season, the Brewers will next compete at the New England Championships, hosted by Mount Holyoke on February 22.
Round 1 – NYU 19 - Vassar 8

Bruce Gillman, NYU was in control of foil and sabre, allowing Vassar only one win in each. The epee team proved a bright spot. Standout sophomore
Sophie Courser (Newton, MA/Buckingham, Brown & Nichol) went undefeated in this round at 3-0. Each of the other epee fencers, including Soiffer, junior epee
Jacinthe Sasson-Yenor (Jersey City, NJ/The Hudson School), and freshman
Veronica Weser (Santa, Fe/NM/Academy for Technologuy and Classics)..
Round 2 – Columbia 26 – Vassar 1
Sophomore Jackie Kory (Martinez, CA/Horizons Home Study) contributed one win in foil. Sabre fell short against an experienced Columbia squad
