PLEASANTVILLE, NY (January 17, 2009) – Coming off a tight loss to Trinity College on Tuesday, the Vassar College men's swim-dive team responded with a convincing victory over Pace University on Saturday. Behind an all-around team performance, Vassar cruised to a 121-68 win.
The Brewers improve to 2-3 and do not compete for another ten days, hosting Montclair State University on Tuesday, January 27 at 6:00 p.m.
“Today's win will give us momentum for Montclair State,” said head coach
Lisl Prater-Lee. “Although we have a championship meet [Seven Sisters] next weekend for the women, the men will be raring to go by Tuesday. We have a lot to look forward to.”
Freshman
Greg Sullivan (Cranbury, NJ/Peddie School) swept the diving events. With his lifetime best score of 271.75 in the 3 Meter event, Sullivan is closing in on the school record of 278.40 set by Roo Wood in 2007. In the 1 Meter, Sullivan scored a 226.58.
In its dominating performance, Vassar's finish in the 50 Yard freestyle was particularly notable, as the Brewers placed 1-2-3, hauling in 16 quick points. Freshman
Dustin Molina (Toms River, NJ/Ranney School) placed first in 23.56, followed by classmate
Ian Madison (Philadelphia, PA/Holy Ghost) in 24.40, with junior
Jeremy Shiman (Brookline, MA/Brookline) rounding out the top three.
“We got a chance to see where our strength and depth is today, giving us more opportunity to see what we can do in terms of changing our lineup,” said head coach
Lisl Prater-Lee, adding “We had a big lead but didn't pull back today. I'm very happy that the team didn't shut down just because we built a lead.”
