Men's Swimming Loses Close Meet To Montclair, 135-106

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 30, 2008) -- Head men's swimming and diving coach Lisl Prater-Lee anticipated a close meet with Montclair State tonight at Kresge Pool and her pre-race feeling stayed true to form. In a close race, Montclair State edged the Brewers, 135-106.

In the 200 yard free John Alaimo and Alistair Hall swam in-season best times with their respective 1:48.78 (2nd) and 1:56.05 (4th) times. The Brewers, attempting to capitalize on its IM strength used both Jeremy Shiman (2:07.93, 2nd) and Tom Liu (2:08.13, 3rd), who practically both outswam Montclair State's John Adams (2:07.69, 1st) but just came up a little short.

Vassar divers Roo Wood (1st, 382.55), Aaron Lefkowitz (2nd, 274.95), and Don Pinkus 5th, 202.4) combined to provide 28 points in the 11-dive, 1-meter event. Wood's 382.55 smashed his own school record of 339.95 points from 2007.

Alistair Hall (5:25.94, 3rd) and Andrew Yau (5:37.65, 5th) added lifetime bests in the 500 yd. free. One of Vassar's strongest events of the meet was the 100 yard breaststroke in which Tom Liu (1:03.09), Jeremy Shiman (1:05.14), and Charlie Kuder (1:08.96 )took 1st, 2nd, and 4th.

"Both teams knew the meet would be close and it did bring out great races," said Prater-Lee. "Congrats to Montclair State for swimming well, but many congratulations to the Vassar swimmers and divers in drawing out the best competition we had this evening."

Next up for the Brewers is a men's and women's meet against New York University this Saturday, February 2 at 1:00 pm
