SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (November 3, 2007) -- Vassar All-America Emily Love won the 200 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke and was a member of the winning 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Vassar's women's swimming & diving team dropped a meet against Skidmore 148-114 in Saratoga Springs. The Thoroughbreds jumped to an early 13-point lead when they took 1st and 3rd in the 200 yd. medley relay.
The Vassar A relay of Melisa Brower (Bridgewater, NJ/ Bridgewater), Emily Love (South Windsor, CT/ South Windsor), Sam Jones (Hanover, MA/ Hanover), and Jordana Jantze (Riverside, IL/ Riverside Brookfield) teamed up for the 2nd place 1:59.36, .28 off of the winning 1:58.08 time.
Charley Young (Pensacola, FL/ Pensacola) missed victory in the 1000 yard free by a narrow margin (5 hundredths of a second) but Skidmore capitalized by taking 1st, 3rd, and 5th and outscoring Vassar 13-6 in the event. Vassar gained some ground in the next two events in which Love (2:00.43, 200 yd. free) and Jones (1:05.64, 100 yard back) gained victories.
Three events, including the 100 yard back, 100 yard free, and 200 yard back, proved to be the highest point total events for Vassar on the day.
In the 100 yard back, Brower teamed up with Jones for a 4th place (1:08.61). Jantze
(57.89) and Stacey Mack (Wilmington, DE/ Archmere Academy) (1:01.33) teamed up for 1st and 4th respectively in the 100 yard free, and the 1st and 4th combination came through again for Vassar in the 200 yard back (Love, 2:11.66; Alyse Larkin, Malibu, CA/ Malibu, 2:33.44).
The 100 yard breaststroke indicated some depth for the Brewer women as Meg McCarty (Wilton, Ct/ Wilton) (1:18.21), Liz Gadomski (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) (1:18.95), and Kristen Klein (St. Louis, MO/ Clayton) (1:25.25) teamed up to take 2nd, 3rd, and 5th respectively.
Although Vassar swam at the Union Relays last weekend, this was the team's first dual meet of the season and for 8 of the 16 Vassar women it was their first college dual meet.
