Medford, MA - The Vassar College Men's Fencing team closed the season on Sunday at the NCAA Northeast Regionals on the campus of Tufts University as four Brewers finished in the top-20 in their respective weapons. Leading the way for Vassar was first year
Alexander North earning a 12th place finish in epee along with senior
Eli Weise finishing 14th in epee. Junior
Brian Li scored a 20th place finish in epee while first year
David Sagardi Diaz took home a 16th place finish in sabre.
Epee
- Round One
- Li went undefeated at 4-0 in pool #1 to advance to the second round with wins over St. John's Lars Ponikvar, MIT"s Alec Zhang, LIU's Jabreel Green and teammate Harper Jamison.
- Jamison battled in four bouts in pool #1.
- Round Two
- North secured a bye into the second round and recorded four wins against Boston College's Colin Yu, Ponikvar, NYU's Ajit Sivakumar and Brandeis' Luke Strauss to advance to the third round.
- Weise also earned a bye to the second round and tallied three victories over MIT's Rishi Shiv, Yale's Thomas Wheelan and NYU's Peter Nikolov to make it to the third round.
- Li scored three victories against Boston College's Levi Hughes, Yale's Konstantin Vaysbukh and NYU's Thomas Murphy to advance to the third round.
- Round Three
- North earned five victories over BC's Daniel Gao, St. John's Spencer Collymore, Columbia's Skyler Liverant, Yale's Daniel Lee and Harvard's Nicholas Zhang to punch his ticket to the final pool.
- Weise secured two wins against Yale's Wheelan and Harvard's Alexander Tafur in pool #2 to place 14th overall.
- Li tallied a victory over MIT's Wilson Zhu in pool #3 to finish 20th overall.
- Round Four
- North earned one win in the final round against tough competition as he defeated Columbia's Ethan Kushnerik to finish 12th overall.
Foil
- Round One
- First year Ethan Capra scored three victories against Yale's Matthew Cheng, MIT's Niles Liu and Brandeis' Alex Fortune to advance to the second round.
- First year Alexander Gobbo tallied two wins over Yale's Josh Shin and LIU's Brendan Wadley to move on to round two.
- Senior Brady Traugot battled in four bouts in pool #1.
- Round Two
- Capra battled in six bouts in pool #1.
- Gobbo fenced in six bouts in pool #2.
Sabre
- Round One
- First year Devan McCarthy posted a perfect 4-0 mark in pool #2 with wins over LIU's Eduardo Duarte and Dethie Diop, Sacred Heart's Oliver Lindholm and Wheaton's Oliver Smink to advance to the second round.
- First year Karthik Shankar tallied a victory over LIU's Munir Aldabaugh in pool #1.
- Round Two
- Sagardi Diaz earned a bye into the second round and picked up three victories against NYU's Vincent Hong, Boston College's Luca Berman and LIU's Tai Flot to move through to the third round.
- McCarthy battled in six bouts in pool #5.
- Round Three
- Sagardi Diaz earned two victories in pool #2 over Boston College's Ryan Wong and Columbia's Nicholas Harvey to finish 16th overall.
