Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Men's Fencing team excelled at the Matt Lampell Invite on Sunday afternoon as the Brewers earned the team first place finish along with the top weapon squads in epee, foil and sabre. Before today's meet, Vassar celebrated its four seniors of Ulysses Bergel, Oliver Berger, Brian Li and Fernando Panepinto Hattori.

Epee

• Vassar 'A' earned the #2 seed in the direct elimination following a strong showing in the two pool rounds.
• Vassar 'B" also excelled in the pool rounds and scored the #7 seed heading into the elimination round.
• The two Vassar squads squared off in the first elimination round with Vassar 'A' scoring the victory.
• Vassar 'B' came away with a seventh place finish with a victory over Marist.
• The 'A' squad earned a victory over third-seeded Binghamton in the semifinals before defeating the top-seeded RPI to earn the weapon squad title.

Foil

• Vassar 'A' dominated the two pool rounds to earn the #1 seed while the 'B' squad posted two strong pool rounds to earn the #6 seed.
• The 'B' squad fell in the first two elimination matchups before defeating Marist to earn seventh place.
• Following the first round victory over eighth-seeded Marist, Vassar 'A' topped fifth-seeded RIT in the semifinal round.
• The Brewers "A' squad took down third-seeded Binghamton in the gold medal match to take the weapon title

Sabre

• Both Vassar squads registered impressive pool rounds to open the day as the 'A' squad collected the #1 seed along with the 'B' squad earning the #3 seed.
• The 'A' squad toppled eighth-seeded Swarthmore and the 'B' squad defeated sixth-seeded Drexel to advance to the semifinal round.
• After falling to second-seeded RIT in the semifinals, Vassar 'B' earned the third place finish with a win over fourth-seeded Rochester.
• The Brewers 'A' team defeated the fourth-seeded Yellowjackets to advance to the gold medal match, where Vassar defeated second-seeded RIT.
