Men's Fencing Tallies Three Victories at the NFC #2

Brewers defeat Tufts, Drew and Brown in conference action

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Vassar College Men's Fencing team tallied three victories at the Northeast Fencing Conference #2 meet, hosted by Boston College. The epee squad led the team with a 30-24 record in conference action.

Vassar took the victory in round one over Tufts 21-6 as freshmen Federico La Rosa and Isaiah Kim along with sophomore Brady Traugot all went 3-0 at foil. Senior Jack Plumer earned two victories at epee while freshman Brian Li, sophomore Eli Weise and senior Alexander Moyse each won once. Senior Conor Travaglione and freshman Oliver Berger picked up two wins at sabre in addition to wins by sophomores Justin Lederer and Noah Rudnet and freshman Fernando Panepinto Hattori.

The Brewers earned a win in the second round against Drew 15-12 with Kim and La Rosa each going undefeated once again at foil. Weise picked up two victories at epee while Moyse added one victory. Travaglione and Berger both went 3-0 at sabre for Vassar.

In round three, Vassar suffered its first loss of the day to MIT 18-9. La Rosa won twice at foil while Kim added a victory for the Brewers. Li and Moyse led the way at epee with two wins with Plumer also winning once. Panepinto Hattori tallied the lone victory at sabre for VC.

The Brewers fell to Brandeis 18-9 in the fourth round as La Rosa picked up the two victories at foil. Plumer turned in two wins at epee for Vassar while Li and Weise recording a victory apiece. Berger tallied two victories at sabre in addition to a win from Travaglione. 

Vassar rebounded with a 14-13 victory over Brown in round five as Weise went undefeated at epee along with two victories from seniors Tom Stadnikov and Spencer Emerson. Berger and Travaglione each went 3-0 at sabre for Vassar with Kim taking the only victory at foil.

The Brewers fell to Boston College in the final round 20-7 while Li went 3-0 at epee along with two wins from Weise and a victory from Stadnikov. Travaglione earned the lone victory at sabre for Vassar.

Vassar returns to action next weekend at Yale University on Saturday, January 28. The meet is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
