POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Vassar College Men's Fencing team won the Matt Lampell Invite First Place trophy on Sunday at Walker Field House. The Brewers went undefeated with a 7-0 record to win and improve to 16-5 overall on the season.
In round one, the Brewers defeated Army 23-4 and was led by a perfect 9-0 from the sabre squad. Sophomores
Justin Lederer and
Noah Rudnet and freshman
Oliver Berger all went 3-0 for sabre while freshmen
Federico La Rosa and
Isaiah Kim along with sophomore
Brady Traugot picked up two victories at foil. Seniors
Jack Plumer and
Spencer Emerson went undefeated at epee for Vassar while classmate
Tian Hahn picked up a victory.
Vassar took round two against RPI 22-5 as the saber squad went 9-0 once again with the trio of Lederer, Rudnet and Berger going undefeated. Emerson and Weise each earned two victories at epee while the trio of La Rosa, Kim and Traugot went 2-0 for the second straight round.
The Brewers picked up its second win on the day after a 19-8 decision over Drew. Berger went undefeated at sabre while Lederer and Rudnet added two victories. La Rosa went 3-0 at foil while Traugot added two wins along with
Brian Li and Weise adding two bout victories over the Rangers.
In round four, Vassar earned a 17-10 victory over Binghamton as sabre and foil each went 7-2 to lead the way. Berger continued their strong day with three more victories in sabre while Lederer, Rudnet and senior
Tom Stadnikov added wins. La Rosa and Kim continued their undefeated streaks at foil and senior
Jack Plumer earned two wins at epee.
Vassar picked up a convincing 26-3 win over RIT in round five as foil went undefeated at 9-0 behind efforts from La Rosa, Kim, Traugot and sophomore
Sean Fisher. Weise went 3-0 at epee while Li and Plumer each picked up two victories and Berger and Lederer went 3-0 at sabre while senior
Nicholas Gayle earned two victories.
Sabre led the way in round six as Rudnet, Gayle and Stadnikov went 9-0 with Vassar picking up a 24-3 victory over Marist.
Ulysses Bergel earned three wins at foil while Traugot also went 3-0. Emerson picked up three wins at epee as freshman
Dariush Modaressi got two wins and senior
Tian Hahn earned a victory.
In the final round, Vassar cruised to a 24-3 victory over Cornell with Berger going 3-0 in sabre along with wins from Gayle, Lederer and Stadnikov. La Rosa, Kim, Traugot and Bergel combined for a 9-0 record at foil while Li and Weise went 3-0 at epee as Modaressi added two victories.
The Brewers will return to action on December 4 for the Tradition Invite hosted by Sacred Heart. The start time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
