NEW PALTZ, NY – It was a victorious evening for the Brewers as the men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept dual meet action at SUNY New Paltz on Friday evening. The Brewers women recorded a 161.5-97.5 win, while the Vassar men were 152-109 victors over the Hawks.
Action opened with the 200-medley relay as the Brewers went 1-2-3 on the women's side. The winning foursome was paced by rookies
Bella Rippon and
Abbe Colgan, along with seniors
Lillian Lowenthal and
Abby Whittington as they posted a time of 1:53.55. Rookies
Lilly Masters and
Frances Pope, along with junior
Alejandra Robins and sophomore
Maya Luongo were runners-up with a 1:57.21, while rookies
Maleigha Vietti and
Stephanie Norris, junior
Alanna Muello and freshman
Abigail McLaughlin had a time of 1:58.22.
In the men's event, the Brewers foursome of rookie Sam Deluca, seniors Anthony Cheng and Jason Albaum, along with sophomore Hayden Ehrenfeld won with a time of 1:40.32.
The 1000-free saw junior
Sarah Quintana swim to victory with a time of 11:15.36, while rookie
Quinn Hoagland was second in 11:29.47. The men's event was won by senior Robbie Perot with a time of 10:15.99.
In the 200-free, the Brewers women packed a 1-2 punch as McLaughlin won in 2:00.48, while rookie
Addie Wiener was runner-up in 2:01.07. Sophomore Benjamin Glazebnik won the men's side with a time of 1:49.50. Next up was the 100-back as Rippon was the victor in 1:01.84, while Masters took second in 1:03.28 for the women. The men's event saw Deluca take second in 58.27.
In the 100-breast, Colgan was the women's winner with a mark of 1:11.96, while Pope finished second in 1:16.64. Cheng was the men's winner, touching the wall in 1:01.01, while Ehrenfeld was second in 1:04.98.
Senior
Grace Myers was the winner in the women's 200-butterfly, posting a time of 2:20.05, while Albaum captured victory on the men's side with a mark of 2:04.97. The 50-free saw another 1-2 punch for the women as Whittington won in 25.77, while Muello was second in 26.00. Glazebnik was the men's victor, touching in a time of 22.26.
The 100-free saw McLaughlin win for the women with 55.61, while Masters was second in 56.63 as sophomore
Jordan Marlow was fourth in 59.07. The men's side was a 1-2 finish as Ehrenfeld claimed victory in 50.78, while junior Lukas Johnson was second in 51.16, while rookie Croix Horsley took fourth in 52.97.
Rippon posted another victory in the 200-back, touching in 2:12.49, while Vietti was third in 2:16.90. The men's event saw Deluca and rookie James Hatch take second (2:11.45) and third (2:11.47), respectively. Lowenthal was the winner in the 200-breast in 2:31.96, while Colgan was second in 2:37.50, while the men's event saw Cheng with the victory in 2:16.15.
In the 500-free, Wiener was the winner in 5:33.83, while Hoagland took second in 5:36.26. The men's event was another victory for Perot, who won in 4:56.51. In the 100-fly, Whittington took third in the women's event with 1:03.99, while Glazebnik was second for the men in 53.98. Quintana then posted the top time in the 200-IM with 2:16.65, while Cheng was the victor for the men's side in 2:04.41.
The final event of the evening saw the Brewers foursome of Luongo, Muello, McLaughlin and Whittington notch the top time of 1:42.06, while the men's relay of Ehrenfeld, Johnson, Perot and Glazebnik had a time of 1:30.26 for the victory.
Vassar's squads are now idle until Friday, December 2 when they head to Ithaca College to compete at the Bombers Invitational. Action runs Friday through Sunday, December 4.
