Maximus Albanese scored a career-high six goals, including three in the fourth quarter, to lift Vassar College to an 11-10 victory over Skidmore College in Liberty League men's lacrosse action on Wednesday. The win marks the first of the season for the Brewers, who are now 1-3 (1-3 Liberty), while the Thoroughbreds move to 1-2 overall (0-2 Liberty).
Trailing by a 9-7 margin heading into the fourth quarter, the Brewers made a massive comeback in the final stanza. Albanese scored three straight goals to push the Brewers into a 10-9 advantage with 8:43 remaining. His fourth tally of the game, off a feed from sophomore attack

Skidmore struck back with 5:35 on the clock following a caused turnover from junior defender Thomas Kelly. Bringing the ball into the zone, Kelly fed it to sophomore midfielder Ben Gastonguay to make it an 11-10 game.
The Thoroughbreds continued to press in the waning seconds of the game, nearly capitalizing on a Vassar turnover, but the Brewers recovered once again to hold possession as the clock wound down to secure the victory.

Aidan Gallagher picked up the victory, making 12 saves. Albanese also added an assist in the contest. Nicholas paced Vassar with a game-best seven ground balls, while Santise added a goal, three assists and a team-best three caused turnovers.
For Skidmore, junior goalie Christopher Downey notched 13 stops in the loss. Senior midfielder Ryan Madalone, who helped the Thoroughbreds to a 7-3 lead after the opening quarter, notched three goals. Freshman face-off specialist John Fitzpatrick was 15-of-24 from the circle on the day, while junior defender Thomas Kelly had a game-best five caused turnovers.
Vassar, who held a 24-22 advantage in shots on goal for the contest, is back in action on Saturday when it hosts the top-ranked team in the nation, RIT at Gordon Field. Game time is set for 3pm. Skidmore is also in action on Saturday, traveling to Troy for a 1pm tilt against RPI.
