2020 Top NCAA D-III Men's ClassesÂ
Â
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Vassar College men's tennis team recorded the No. 23 recruiting class across all of Division III as announced by the Tennis Recruiting Network and Mizuno. This list is based on commitments reported on or before May 24, 2020.
Â
Three recruits comprise this year's Class of 2024 incoming recruits for the Brewers. Among them are Benjamin Almquist from Union Pier, Michigan (UTR 10.58), Arun Guruswamy from Hauppauge, New York (UTR 10.52) and Jay Wong from Hong Kong (UTR 10.62).Â
Â
"We are very proud of this recruiting class and thrilled to bring student-athletes of their talent level into our program," said head coach
Tina McDermott. "Throughout their high school careers they have excelled in the classroom and on the tennis courts. We couldn't be more excited about having these three young men join us next year. There are over 350 NCAA Division III men's tennis programs, so it is an honor to earn recognition for a top 25 recruiting class." Â
Â
This is the highest ranked recruiting class in school history. With the longest hiatus, head coach
Tina McDermott has the Brewers back in the recruiting class rankings for the first time since 2013 (No. 24).
Â
Vassar's men's tennis program posted a 7-2 overall record in 2020, going 3-1 in Liberty League play in the pandemic shortened season. The Brewers posted wins over Bard, RIT, then-nationally ranked Rochester, Clark, St. Lawrence, Hardin-Simmons and Whittier.
Two players garnered Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week, while the Brewers were honored three times with the league's Doubles Team of the Week. Rising senior
David Gandham was also named the UTR/ITA Division III Men's Player of the Week in February.
