Live Stats | Live Video

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Head coach John McCreery takes his first season at the helm of the Vassar men's lacrosse season starting this Saturday when the Brewers travel to Drew. Game starts at 12 p.m. in Madison NJ. at Drew's Ranger Stadium.

The Brewers are coming off a 2-12 season and look to get back to the Liberty League Tournament for the first time since 2017. Ten starters return with Vassar losing only one senior to graduation. This year's squad is led by captains James Thomas (Manhasset, NY), Chris Koester (Garden City, NJ), Nathaniel Lyman (Beverly, MA) and Michael Mullen (Dresher, PA).

Vassar brings a talented offense with the top-six scorers returning. Sophomore attackman Mullen started 13 games and led the Brewers with 65 points (20 goals, eight assists). Junior attack Nick Diamond (Boca Raton, FL) started all 14 games and was second with 24 points and had a team-high 15 assists. Midfielders Dekker Stebel (Cardiff, CA) and Thomas had 21 points each. Dekker's 17 goals were second on the team, while Thomas was third with 16. Tomás Meade (Corvallis, OR) tacked on 15 points (12 goals, three assists) and started seven games. Kyle Cherry appeared in 13 contests and had 13 points (10 goals, three assists).

Vassar's defensive returnees are highlighted by the duo of Cooper Vorel (Boonton Township, NJ) and Matt Lowery Bel Air, MD). Vorel caused a team-high 12 turnovers and Lowery paced the team in ground balls with 97 while leading the league in ground balls per game (7.46). Lowrey was the Brewers main faceoff specialist, winning 63.7 percent (160-of-251) of matches in the X.

Matt Boyd (Essex Falls, NJ) was the primary goalkeeper a season ago, starting 13 of 14 games. He was second in the conference with 10.1 saves a game and recorded 142 saves. Erik Mikelinich (Melville, NY) played eight games between the pipes, making 27 saves.

Following the quick road trip to Drew, Vassar has its home opener on Wed. Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. against Montclair State. The game will be played at Weinberg Field.
