MADISON, N.J. – The Vassar men's fencing kept busy with one more invitational before Thanksgiving break, posting a 6-1 record at the Drew Holiday Invitational. Freshman
Conor Travaglione (Vestal, NY) led the way, going undefeated 17-0 in the sabre field.
Each weapon group posted 44 or more victories. Sabre went 48-15, while foil and epee both were 44-19.
Vassar opened the day with victories over Denison (19-8), Clemson (21-6), Yeshiva (25-2), and Hunter (21-6) before falling 13-14 to the Drew "Blue" team. The Brewers then won 23-4 against Flordia and closed the day with a close 14-13 victory against the Drew "Green" squad.
Travaglione swept through all seven opponents as Vassar's undefeated fencer. Joining him on the sabre squad was junior
Evin Heintz (Pearland, TX), and sophomore
Oliver Heard (Perrysburg, OH). Heintz went unbeaten in his first four rounds against Denison, Clemson, Yeshiva, and Hunter with nine straight victories. He then won 2-1 against Drew before winning five in a row to finish at 16-1. Flores posted a 9-8 record, while Heard was 5-4.
At foil, junior
Adlai Brandt-Ogman (South Salem, NY) was the top competitor at 20-1. He recorded 3-0 marks over Denison, Clemson, Yeshiva, Drew, and Florida. Senior
Ben Papsun (North Haven, CT) Sophomore
Chase Estes (Naples, FL) completed the trio and both of them posted 13-8 marks.
A first-year grouping of
Alexander Moyse (Montclair, NJ),
Jack Plumer (Bel Air, MD), and
Tom Stadnikov (Sudbury, MA) comprised the epee field. Moyse led the Brewers with 16 wins, going 3-0 against Denison and Florida. Plumer posted 13 victories and went undefeated against Denison and Yeshiva. Stadnikov had a solid day as well, recording a 15-6 mark. He won nine straight after the first round with wins over Clemson, Yeshiva, and Hunter.
Vassar now has a short break, but returns to action on Sun. Dec. 8 for the Sacred Heart Invitational at 10 a.m. in Fairfield, CT.
