GENEVA, N.Y. – The Vassar College men's tennis team began play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships on Friday.  
David Gandham (Ann Arbor, MI) won both of his singles matches to advance to the round of 16, while the Brewers also had a pair of doubles tandems open the tournament with a victory.
 
Seeded 11
th in the singles draw, Gandham won his first-round match against Rochester's Tanmay Thakkar by a score of 7-5, 4-6, 10-1.  He then defeated Brian Szyana of Stevens 6-3, 6-2 to move into the round of 16, where he'll meet Hobart's Alan Dubrovsky.
 
Mathew Yee (Sha Tin, Hong Kong) also reached the second round in singles.  He beat Hobart's David Reinhartz 6-4, 6-4 before falling to the No. 13 seed, Matthew Michibata of TCNJ, 6-0, 6-1.  
Adam Krueger (Bay Village, OH), meanwhile, topped Daniel Tsyvin of Hamilton 6-3, 6-3 in the first round, then suffered a tough 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 loss to Skidmore's Travis Leaf, the No. 12 seed, in the second round.
 
Jamie Anderson (Constantine, KY), 
Jeremy Auh (Scottsdale, AZ) and 
Allen Sokolov (Woodland Hills, CA) all dropped their first-round singles matches.  Anderson was drawn against the No. 7 seed, Skidmore's Noah Williamson, who notched a 7-6, 6-2 win.  Auh lost to 10
th-seeded Marc Feliu Gomez of Stevens by a 6-3, 6-3 count, while Sokolov was beaten, 6-4, 6-3, by Hobart's Walker Anderson.
 
In doubles, Krueger and Yee rallied to topple TCNJ's Sean Reilly and Mikhael Kadyrkaev 9-7.  Auh and Sokolov also reached the second round with their 8-3 win over Gabe Sifuentes and Garrett Kincaid of Stevens.  Vassar's third doubles team, Gandham and Anderson, lost to St. Lawrence's Nico Haetz and Leo Romanetz by an 8-3 count.
 
Two rounds of both singles and doubles are scheduled for Saturday.  The first matches get underway at 8:30 a.m.
