POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 7, 2018) – The Vassar College baseball team continues its campaign into the postseason on Thursday afternoon, traveling to the University of Rochester for Liberty League Tournament action on Towers Field in Rochester, NY. Vassar earned the conference tournament bid thanks to three wins over Bard Saturday and Sunday, and will serve as the No. 3 while batting Union College at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Last Time Out: Vassar picked up two important league victories over Bard Saturday, outscoring the Raptors 18-8 on the day. Bryan Rubin shined, four hits, including a double, two RBI, two runs, and stolen base. From the mound, he closed out game two, striking out 3 of 4 batters faced. Prior to the doubleheader, the Brewers honored its six seniors for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to the program.

A Look At The Brewers (18-17, 11-10 Liberty)

• VC is the #3 seed in the 2018 LL Championships.
• This will be the 4^th-ever LL Championship appearance for the Brewers: 2018, 2017, 2014, and 2013.
• VC is looking for their first tournament win since 2014. No active Brewer has won a Liberty League Championship game.
• With 6 homers this season, Kinne has already broken the single-season homerun record, and is one away from tying the career record.
• Bryan Rubin (.368) and Bobby Kinne (.355) both rank among the league top-10 in batting average.
• The Brewers remain strong at bat with four batters placing in the top 10 of the league for least amount of strikeouts this season: Bobby Kinne (3), Daniel Bonfiglio (3), Jake Doyle (7), and Matt Mcgannon (8).
• Vassar ranks fourth in the conference in fielding percentage, with a team average of .965. 
• Evan Trausch leads the team and is sixth in the league in putouts with 290 so far this season.  
• Trausch and Kinne lead the league in fielding double plays, with Trausch making 30 double plays and Kinne following close behind with 26.
• Alex Harnett currently boast an ERA of 1.89, ranking sixth overall in the league.

A Look At The Dutchmen (27-10, 17-6 Liberty):

• The Dutchmen come are the #2 seed in the LL Championships.
• Union has a long tradition of success at the LL Championships, winning in both 2014 and 2016.
• Last season, the Dutchmen's run ended in a 12 inning battle with Clarkson, falling 4-6.
• Union relies heavily on offense, posting double-digit runs in 12 games this season.
• Union has over 100 more hits (433) and RBIs (292) than any team in the LL.
• Union boasts the highest batting average in the conference (.351).
• The league's top three hit-leaders are all from Union: Jack Koch (.463, 50 hits), Sean Cullen (.421, 56 hits), and Colin Kelly (.409, 56 hits).
• As a team, the Dutchmen have stolen 69 bases on the year, led by Jack Koch, with 22.
• The Dutchmen's fielding percentage is second only to RIT (.966).

Against Union All-Time: Vassar is 19-53 against Union all-time. Last year, the Brewers and the Dutchmen met four times, with the Brewers winning all four. This season, Union has taken all three contests.
 
Next Time Out: The Liberty League Tournament is a double-elimination format. Should VC win, they will advance to face the winner between #1 Rochester and Friday's wild card winner (#4 RIT or #5 RPI), played at 2 pm Friday. If the Brewers lose, they will compete in an elimination game at 11 am Friday. The Championship contest is slated for 12 pm Saturday, May 12.
