Vassar Baseball Game Notes - Union

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 25, 2018) – The Brewers look to extend their three-game winning streak with a pair of double headers this weekend against conference rival Union College. Vassar and Union are competing for seeding in the Liberty League tournament, as the Brewers and the Dutchmen are in second and third place respectively in the conference standings.

Last Time Out: Vassar picked up a non-conference win over Mount St. Vincent, defeating the Dolphins 6-4 with three runs in the first and third innings. Jason Salerno and Bryan Rubin batted in two runs each, and Jake Silver earned a win after pitching five innings and striking out four batters.

A Look At The Brewers (15-13, 8-6 Liberty)
  • Senior Bobby Kinne and sophomore Evan Trausch are ninth and tenth in the league in individual batting average, at .373 and .363.
  • The Brewers are third in the conference in team batting average, with a team average of .282.
  • Freshman Logan Willans and sophomore Mitchell Mullock currently boast ERAs of 1.50 and 1.93, tenth and eleventh best in the Liberty League.
  • Trausch and Kinne lead the league in fielding double plays, with Trausch making 23 double plays and Kinne not far behind with 22.
  • Kinne leads the team in runs batted in, sending 23 baserunners home this season.
  • Logan Willans and Senior John Madsen are both undefeated on the mound this season, each earning two wins.

A Look At The Dutchmen (22-6, 12-4 Liberty):
  • Union leads the league in team batting average, collectively posting a .357 percentage.
  • Union players have four of the top six batting averages in the league, led by freshman Jack Koch who is first in the league with an average of .476. Teammate Jack Vesling is third at .459, and Colin Kelly and Sean Cullen are fourth and fifth with averages of .408 and .406.
  • Freshman Charlie Hoover has the pitched an ERA of 1.23, the lowest ERA in the league for any player pitching more than ten innings.
  • Kelly and Vesling lead the league in runs batted in, with Kelly batting 39 runs in and Vesling batting in 28.
  • Senior Jack Kelly also lead the league in home runs with seven this year. Teammate Andy Labeck is tied for second in the league with Vassar's Bobby Kinne with six home runs.
  • Vesling has leads both his team and the league in games won at pitcher, earning five wins this year. Vesling is undefeated on the season so far.
  • Senior Ryan Kuchar and sophomore Collin Nye have each earned three wins on the mound this season. Both have a 3-1 record this year.
Against Union All-Time: Vassar is 19-47 against Union all-time, but have won the last four games in the series. Last year, the Brewers and the Dutchmen met four times, with the Brewers winning all four. In their last meeting, the Brewers rolled to a 14-8 victory at Union.
 
Next Time Out: The Brewers are off until next Saturday, May 5, when they will travel to Bard College for the first double header of two. The Brewers will then return home to host the Raptors on Senior Day.
