Vassar Baseball Game Notes - Rochester

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 17, 2018) – The Vassar College baseball team will travel to Rochester on Wednesday, April 18, to take on the Yellowjackets of University of Rochester.

Last Time Out: Sophomore Mitchell Mullock tossed eight innings while allowing one run in game two, helping Vassar College knock off Clarkson University 6-1 in game two of a Liberty League doubleheader to salvage the final contest of a four-game set. CU earned game one Saturday 4-0. 
 
A Look At The Brewers (11-10, 7-5 Liberty)
  • Vassar has been strong defensively this season, franking first in the conference in fielding percentage at .972, 16th nationally. VC is also 8th in the country in double plays per game with 1.06.
  • Senior Bobby Kinne is having a great year, ranking first on the team in hitting with a .391 clip. He is also one of just two players nationally that qualifies for the national rankings to have not struck out this season.
  • Junior Bryan Rubin has hits in 12 of the 13 last games, including three three-hit performances as he has raised his average to .368 for the season.
  • The Brewers have had seven different pitchers start games this year, while sophomore Max Spencer is the only person with five or more starting assignments.
  • Senior Matt Hernandez comes into the weekend eighth all-time in assists at Vassar with 229 for his career.
  • Freshman Logan Willans has tossed 16.1 innings with an ERA of 0.55, first in the league for pitchers with over 10 innings logged
  • Sophomore Mitchell Mullock has a 2.45 ERA over 22 innings in three starts this season, surrendering just six runs while striking out eight batters.
  • Bobby Kinne, Evan Trausch, and Tanner Blough are tied for first in the Liberty League in fielding percentage, with no errors between the three of them.
 
A Look At The Yellowjackets (6-10, 6-2 Liberty):
  • Rochester is coming off of a long break, playing their last game on April 11th against Oswego State. Their last three games have been cancelled.
  • Despite losing their first six games of the season, Rochester sits in second place in the Liberty League with only two losses in conference.
  • The Yellowjackets come into this game with a .309 batting average through 16 games, second best in the Liberty League.
  • Sophomore Kyle Trombley leads the team with a.458 batting average, followed by freshman Steve Pickering at .438. Trombley is also second in the Liberty League in bases stolen with 11.
  • Graduate Student Will Conroy has been the strongest pitcher so far for the Yellowjackets, posting a 1.74 ERA, the lowest for any pitcher on the team with more than ten innings pitched.
  • Rochester is second in the league in double plays with 20, behind only Vassar.
  • Junior Jack Herman leads the Yellowjackets in runs batted in, with 15 RBIs on the season.
 
Against Rochester All-Time: Rochester leads the series 15-11 all-time, including the last four wins in four meetings last year. The Brewers looks to avenge a 5-11 loss last year in the Liberty League Championships.
 
Next Time Out: The Brewers will travel to Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA this Saturday for a doubleheader, before returning to Prentiss Field in Poughkeepsie for a double header against Lehman College on Sunday.
