POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 27, 2018) – The Vassar College baseball team will return to the diamond for the first time in eight days Wednesday afternoon, opening up its home schedule with a non-conference bout with The College at Old Westbury. The Brewers have dropped their last three, playing the first seven games out in California during Spring Break.

Last Time Out: The Brewers dropped a 9-0 decision to Whittier College to end their Spring Break trip out in California. Tim Turpen of Whittier allowed no runs and just five hits to the Brewers, one of which was a double from senior
Bobby Kinne. VC has allowed 9 or more runs in each of its last three contests.
A Look At The Brewers (2-5, 0-0 Liberty):
- Vassar comes into the game with the Liberty League's top defensive unit, posting a .980 fielding percentage, fifth-best in Division III.
- Senior Bobby Kinne leads the team in batting average right now with a .391 clip, also leading the conference in homers with two.
- Sophomore Daniel Bonfiglio is 6-for-20 so far (.300) with two doubles.
- Freshman Elliott Layne is batting .385 this year, and his on-base percentage of .600 is second-best in the Liberty League. Layne has been plunked also four times already.
- Three players have four-game hitting streaks going, as Kinne, Evan Trausch and Bonfiglio are tied for the team lead in that category.
- Layne is reached base safely in all six games that he has appeared in for the Brewers.
- Vassar's led on the mound by sophomore Max Spencer, who earned Liberty League Pitcher of the Week honors two Mondays ago. Spencer has a 0.75 ERA with a 1-1 record, allowing five hits over 12 innings this year. Batters are hitting .125 against the southpaw.
- Junior Joe Conti is also 1-0 on the year, surrendering no runs over 3.1 innings in relief.
- Freshman Logan Willans has struck out six batters in three innings this season, allowing no runs.
- Senior John Madsen and freshman Hawkins Hodges lead the team in appearances with three apiece.
- Kinne has been superb in the field at second base for Vassar, having made no errors on his 26 chances.
- Vassar is hitting .254 on the second with runners in scoring position, but has posted 16 two-out RBI.
- VC is getting runners on, as lead-off men have posted a .397 average to start innings.
- Oddly, Vassar is hitting an identical .244 against both right and left-handed pitchers so far this year.
A Look At The Panthers (7-5-1, 1-1 Skyline):
- Old Westbury has won three of its last four, splitting a doubleheader with Purchase College on Sunday afternoon at Purchase.
- The Panthers are swinging hot bats right now, as the team comes into Wednesday's game with a .324 team average. That ranks 26th national and first in the Skyline.
- Old Westbury is getting on-base at a .418 clip this season as a squad, second in the Skyline and 41st in Division III baseball.
- Liam Slattery is second in the nation in walks per game with 1.64, as he has drawn 18 free passes in 13 games. He is also 11th nationally in on-base percentage at .651.
- John Fogarty leads the team in hitting with a .385 batting averge, posting team-highs with 20 hits and six doubles.

- Steven Tellerias has tossed eight innings out of the 'pen, posting a 2.25 ERA to lead the squad.
Against Old Wesbury All-Time: Vassar is 1-7-1 against the Panthers all-time, having lost to Old Westbury last back in 2016 in Poughkeepsie with a 10-3 scoreline. Vassar's lone win came in 2012, a 5-3 win in Old Westbury.
