The Vassar men's lacrosse team faced a tough opponent this past Tuesday against Montclair State, falling 11-5 in their second game of the season. The Brewers led the Red Hawks early with a goal by
Kyle Cherry, but fell behind by the end of the first quarter. Despite trailing the Red Hawks, the Brewers fought hard for control of the game and were able to score two more goals before the end of the second quarter by
Dekker Stebel and
Drew Adams. In spite of their efforts, the Brewers did not regain the lead in the second half despite solid defensive efforts throughout. Goalie
Matt Boyd played all 60 minutes and made 14 saves in the tough loss against the Red Hawks.
A Look At The Brewers (1-1, 0-0 Liberty League):
- The Brewers have had 10 players tally at least one goal just two games into the season.
- Dekker Stebel leads the offense with four goals and two assists, totaling six points so far this season.
- Michael Mullen and James Thomas follow right behind Stebel, each contributing three goals on the season thus far along with assists from Mullen as well.
- Matthew Lowery and Michael Mullen also lead the team in ground balls, contributing both offensively and defensively to the Brewer's success.
- Freshmen Stefan Felps and Zack Henig have had strong defensive presences so far this season, each causing turnovers and picking up multiple ground balls.
- Lowery has also been a standout in face-offs, winning 13 in the two games the Brewers have competed in so far.
- Junior Matt Boyd logged 21 saves against Drew and Montclair State, making his save percentage .514 and goals against average 8.50.
- The Brewers are looking to gain their winning record back against opponent Swarthmore College this Saturday.
A Look At The Garnett (1-1, 0-0 Centennial Conference):
- Senior Cam Marsh has been offensive standouts for Swarthmore, with Marsh earning seven assists in just two games.
- Sophomores Jake Ross and Austin Chang have both contributed to Swarthmore offensive as well, with Ross posting four goals in the first game of the season and Chang posting two goals in the second game of the season.
- Senior goalie John Calia has made 19 saves so far this season, playing the whole game for both games so far this season.
- Swarthmore men's lacrosse will be looking for a win this upcoming Saturday after losing to Widener University last Saturday 12-6.
- Swarthmore has a large freshmen class, bringing in 14 new players looking to get game action this season.
- Senior Matt Johnson has also had a strong showing so far, totaling two goals and one assist in just one game played.
Against Swarthmore All-Time: The Brewers are 2-3 against Swarthmore College all-time. The Brewers and Swarthmore matched up four years in a row from 2014-17. In the last two years, the Brewers have beaten Swarthmore 11-7 and 8-3 and will be looking to continue the winning streak.
