MEDIA, PA (Oct. 14, 2018) – Over the 35-year history of the Seven Sisters Championships, the Vassar College women's cross country team has claimed the team title four times and had four individual winners. So it was fitting that in the final Seven Sisters, the 27
th-ranked Brewers would add a fifth team championship. Vassar placed six runners in the top 10 to capture its second straight Seven Sisters crown on Sunday at Rose Tree Park.
Vassar has now finished first or second at this event nine times in the last 10 years, including titles in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2018. The Brewers earned a total of 30 points, well ahead of second-place Wellesley (49).
Hannah Martin (Fort Wayne, IN) led for much of the race before falling and being caught by Wellesley's Grace Cowles over the final 800 meters. She ended up finishing second with a 6000-meter time of 23:12.8, six seconds behind Cowles.
Megan Horn (Cranston, RI) cracked Vassar's top five for the first time this season. She placed fourth overall in 23:19.1.
Christiana Prater-Lee (Poughkeepsie, NY) led a string of four straight Brewers across the line with her seventh-place finish (23:34.1).
Cameron Daddis (Yorba Linda, CA) was eighth in 23:34.4, while
Seneca Straub (Maytown, PA) finished ninth (23:38.2) and
Elise Matera (Chapel Hill, NC) placed 10
th (23:41.3).
"It has been a rough couple weeks, but the team really showed up today," Head Coach
James McCowan said. "Once again, the depth of the team was on showcase, as we had yet another completely different finishing order. I'm super pleased to see the women rally for the win."
The Brewers would go on to finish third at the Liberty League Championships and win their second consecutive ECAC title before taking seventh at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.
