Vassar Men's Basketball Notes — Bard

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 14, 2017) — The Vassar College men's basketball team (6-17, 2-12) heads to Bard College for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Tipoff is timed for 8 p.m.

Last Time Out: Mason Dyslin tipped in the buzzer-beating shot for Vassar to escape with a 78-76 win at Clarkson University on Saturday. The game-winner capped an eight-point performance for Dyslin, who finished with a season-best 10 boards, helping the Brewers out-rebound the Golden Knights, 32-26. Alex Seff totaled 28 points and 10 boards, while Jesse Browne contributed 17 points and six assists. Mattie Mrlik matched a personal-best with eight points, as the Vassar bench outscored the Clarkson reserves, 20-9.
 
A Look At The Brewers (6-17):
  • Seff was named to the Liberty League Honor Roll on Monday for his performances last week. He averaged 22 points, shooting 61 percent from the floor and 63 percent (5-of-8) from distance, to help Vassar split the weekend. The full release can be read here.
  • The Brewers are shooting 43 percent from the floor and 33 percent from three, while draining an average of 7.2 triples per game. Meanwhile, opponents are shooting 47 and 39 percent, respectively, while hitting an average of 8.5 per contest.
  • Vassar has dished out an average of 13.8 assists, which is a slight edge over opponents (13.1apg)
  • The Brewers will be looking to sweep Bard for the second straight season after beating the Raptors 65-61 and 72-69 in 2016.
  • Three Brewers are averaging double-digit scoring in Seff (16.1ppg), Browne (13.9) and Dyslin (10.9).
  • Seff also leads in steals (30), while grabbing 5.1 boards and 2.3 assists per game.
  • Browne has also been extremely multidimensional, leading the team in assists (2.6apg) and blocks (7), while adding 3.7 rebounds per game and 23 steals.
  • Owen Murray recently returned to the hardwood after missing more than a month with injury. Through 14 games, the freshman leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game, while also adding 5.1 points and 2.6 assists per game. Despite missing time on the floor, Murray is third on the team in steals with 21.
  • Five Vassar first-year players have contributed significantly this season. Owen MurrayHunter GettingsMattie MrlikKyle Kappes and Josh Brownridge have all played in at least 14 games, and have started in at least one.
 
A Look At The Raptors (3-20):
  • Bard has fallen to its last three opponents, most recently beating Skidmore College 70-61 on Feb. 3.
  • In their most recent outing, the Raptors fell 81-70 to St. Lawrence after leading by as many as 15 points in the first half.
  • The Raptors own a negative scoring margin of -11.3, getting outscored 71.3 to 60.0 on average.
  • The Raptors are shooting 38 percent from the floor, 30 percent from deep and 58 percent from the stripe. Meanwhile, opponents are shooting 45, 34 and 71 percent, respectively.
  • Bard has been aggressive on the glass, grabbing 3.5 more boards per game, 38.0 to 34.5.
  • Of Bard's three wins, one has come at home, one has come on the road and one has come at a neutral site.
  • Harry Johnson leads the Raptors with 10.4 points per game. Chris Lockwood is second with 9.7 points per game but first with 2.6 assists per contest.
  • Armando Dunn has had a solid defensive presence, swiping a team-leading 29 steals to go along with 8.7 points and 6.0 boards per game.
  • The Raptors have taken a dip since 2015-16, a season in which they finished 9-16 overall and 6-10 in conference play.
 
Against Bard All-Time: The Brewers are 30-6 against the Raptors all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1989. Vassar most recently bested Bard earlier this season by a 69-61 decision.  In that game, the Brewers shot 52 percent from the floor and 50 percent (8-of-16) from three, while holding their visitors to 40 and 27 percent (7-of-26), respectively.
