Last Time Out: The Brewers made quick work of the Clark University team with a score of 8-1, though the work was anything but quick. Due to a leak on one of the courts at Clark, Vassar and the Cougars played for nearly four hours before VC earned the victory. Seniors
Nick Litsky and
Juan Felipe Laso each earned two wins apiece, while freshman
Jeremy Auh and sophomore
Jamie Anderson also accomplished the feat in the win.
A Look At The Brewers (3-1):
- The competitive nature of practices should prove Vassar well throughout the spring, as position No. 3 through No. 6 have been occupied by two or more different people for VC.
- The No. 1 position has stayed in the hands of Litsky for the Brewers, as the No. 16 ranked singles player in the region is 6-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in dual matches.
- Freshman Allen Sokolov has also been slotted at the No. 2 position for all four matches this season, and has an even 2-2 mark for VC.
- The No. 3 spot for the Brewers has been the most successful this season, as Laso and Anderson have combined to go 4-0 in singles action. The No. 3 spot is the only undefeated position in the lineup for VC.
- Sophomore Nick Lee has enjoyed his time this season in the lineup, going 2-0 at No. 5 singles.
- Laso has Vassar's best winning percentage this year, going 5-1 on the season in in singles.
- Anderson has been VC's best doubles player this season, as the sophomore has gone 3-0 on the year, including chalking up two conference wins already. Zuczek is the only other undefeated doubles player, as he has gone 2-0.
- Vassar has won 67.6 percent of its singles matches thus far this season, while going 9-5 in doubles overall.
- Jeremy Auh earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week this week, after he picked up his first collegiate win at No. 5 at Clark.
- Laso was the Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week, named Monday, while Litsky and Luckman were the Doubles Team of the Week.
A Look at the Tigers (0-2):
- RIT started its spring slate on February 11, falling to the University of Rochester 9-0.
- The Tigers have lost 9-0 in each of their two dual matches during the 2016-17 season, also falling to Roberts Wesleyan 9-0 back on September 25, 2016.
- The team has played in some strong events so far this season, as RIT comes into the weekend with just a .125 winning percentage in singles play.
- Doubles action hasn't been much better for the Tigers, as RIT has posted just two wins in 17 pairs matches this season.
- Chandler Duab and Jared Ingoglia have each played at No. 1 for the Tigers, while Ingoglia has one of the team's four wins on the season.
- Spencer Lowitt is 1-2 on the year, and Brady Smith picked up a win in his only match of the year for RIT.
- Roger Peckham has also earned one victory this year, and currently sports a 1-4 overall singles mark. Peckham has teamed with Hamza Khammash to go 1-4 in doubles.
- Vassar defeated RIT 9-0 last year in Rochester, and has never dropped a match point to RIT in the five all-time meetings with the Tigers.
A Look At The Thoroughbreds (2-0, 2-0 Liberty)
- Skidmore will start its spring schedule on Saturday, hosting the Brewers at 1 p.m. at the Saratoga YMCA. The Thoroughbreds have not competed as a team since the Wallach Invite at Bates College on October 8.
- The Thoroughbreds are currently ranked No. 21 nationally according to the latest ITA rankings, slotted in at No. 8 in the region.
- One of the reasons for that is the play from All-American Kai Yuen Leung, who is ranked No. 2 in the region, while winning the ITA Regional in the fall.
- Leung played in the 2016 ITA Oracle Cup, falling in the quarterfinals, before coming back to win both of his matches in the consolation round.
- On the season, Leung is a whopping 16-2, going 14-2 in tournament play.
- Teammate Steven Koulouris is 6-3 on the year in singles play, while John Wynne is 7-2 as well in singles action.
- Lucas Pickering is 5-2 on the season, having played the No. 3 slot once in the fall, while Jason Keye has a pair of No. 6 victories.
- In doubles, Skidmore has won only 52.2 percent of their matches, down from the 73.2 percent winning clip in singles.
- Skidmore is the reigning Liberty League champions, taking its third straight and 12th overall title last year.
- The T'Breds defeated Vassar last year 6-3, and have won the past seven meetings with the Brewers.
Up Next: The Brewers will host the University of Rochester in Walker Field House on Saturday, February 25 at 9 a.m., not returning for a home match in Poughkeepsie until April 1, a stretch of seven road competitions.
