POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 17, 2016) — The Liberty League announced its annual tennis postseason awards Tuesday morning, and Vassar College sophomore
Kate Christensen was named to the All-Liberty League First Team for her play in the 2015-16 season.
Along with Christensen's First Team honor, four other Brewers were recognized. Senior
Kelsey Van Noy was pegged to the All-League Second Team and sophomore
Morgan Fitzgerald earned an Honorable Mention, while
Hanna McGuire and
Shayna Becker were named to the All-League Second Team in doubles.
Christensen, who was named Player and Rookie of the Year for the 2014-15 season, finished this season 13-11 overall and 3-2 in conference play in singles. The sophomore saw the most action at No. 1 singles, finished the season with an 11-6 record. Christensen was also spectacular in doubles play, ending the year with a 13-6, 3-1 mark with partners Fitzgerald (10-4, 2-1),
Morgane Flournoy (2-1, 0-0) and
Lauren Stauffer (1-0, 1-0). This season, Christensen enjoyed four-match winning streak in doubles and two three-match winning streaks in singles.
Van Noy finished this season 12-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play in singles. The senior saw the most action at No. 3 singles, finishing with a 6-6 mark. In doubles, Van Noy posted a 16-13 overall and 3-2 conference record with partners Stauffer (10-9, 1-1), Flournoy (6-3, 2-1) and McGuire (0-1, 0-0). This season, Van Noy enjoyed a five-match winning streak in doubles and two three-match winning streaks in singles.
Fitzgerald finished this season 13-14 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The sophomore saw the most action at No. 4 singles, finishing with a 5-7 mark. In doubles, Fitzgerald finished 11-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play with partners Christensen (10-4, 2-1), Flournoy (1-0, 0-0), McGuire (0-2, 0-0) and Stauffer (0-2, 0-1). Fitzgerald enjoyed a four-match winning streak in doubles and a six-match winning streak in singles.
McGuire and Becker have been a consistent force for the Brewers this season. Together, the duo finished with 8-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play at No. 1 doubles. They enjoyed a four-match winning streak in April, beating All-American duo Madie Benn and Michelle Fuca of Skidmore College in the process.
Junior Hanna More of William Smith College was pegged Player of the Year, freshman Amelia Ying of Rochester Institute of Technology was named Rookie of the Year, and coach Greg Kreitzer of St. Lawrence University headed the Coaching Staff of the Year.
