Vassar Men's Tennis Notes — RPI

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 14, 2016) — The Vassar College men's tennis squad (7-11, 3-1 Liberty) will match up against in-conference opponent Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY this Sunday at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
Vassar journeyed to Boston, MA last weekend where it faced Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brandeis University and Emerson College.  The Brewers took 8-1 and 9-0 losses to MIT and Brandeis, respectively, before ending their weekend on a high note with an 8-1 triumph over Emerson.

A Look at the RPI Engineers (5-6, 2-1 Liberty)
The Engineers come into their match against the Brewers riding a wave of recent victories. RPI defeated Hardin-Simmons University 7-2 on March 15, Washington College 9-0 on March 17, Bard College 9-0 on April 2 and Rochester Institute of Technology 9-0 on April 9. Not only did the Engineers win these last four matches, but they posted shutouts in their last three.

Last Meeting
Vassar and RPI last saw each other in April 2015 when they played on the Josselyn Tennis Courts in Poughkeepsie. The Brewers fell to the Engineers in a close competition, 5-4.

Liberty League Standings
Vassar ranks third in the Liberty League standings ahead of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (5-6, 2-1), Hobart College (6-6, 1-1), Rochester Institute of Technology (2-5, 1-2), Union College (2-7, 1-2) and Bard College (1-8, 0-7). Only Skidmore College (8-3, 3-0) and St. Lawrence (7-6, 3-0) are ahead of the Brewers.

Cooper The Trooper
Daniel Cooper dominated at No. 1 singles, picking up Vassar's lone win against Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 8. With that, the senior captain captured his 13th win of the season, beating Kevin Wang in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. 

Double Trouble
The Brewers continued their recent doubles successes against Emerson. Evan Udine and Gray Thurstone posted a dominating 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Joshua Freud and Nik Rhodes, getting things rolling for the Brewers. Jamie Anderson and Robin Drummond added onto this with an 8-2 win at three over Matt Jepsky and Blake Greenawalt. Finally, Juan Felipe Laso and Alexander Luckmann finished the sweep with a close 8-5 victory over Antonio Ramirez and Daniel Okin.

Playing at No. 2 singles for the first time all year, Jamie Anderson handed Daniel Okin of Emerson College a 6-0, 6-0 bagel. The Brewers went on to win 8-1, ending their Massachusetts road trip with momentum before it re-enters conference play. 

Up Next
The Vassar men's tennis squad will return home on Wednesday, April 20 at 3:30 p.m. to face off against The College of New Jersey. This will be the first home match for the Brewers since they took on Yeshiva University on April 3.
