Saratoga Springs, NY – The Vassar College Men's Tennis team opened play in the ITA Northeast Regional in strong fashion on Friday at Skidmore. The doubles tandem of
Junchen Jia (Vail, AZ) and
Henry Zhang (Zhengzhou, China) won two matches for the Brewers, advancing to the quarterfinals of the main doubles draw. In the singles draw,
Eugene Lee (Chico, CA),
Shrey Choudhary (Farmington, CT) and
Eddie Zeng (Melissa, TX) all won a pair of matches.
Doubles
- Jia and Zhang opened the day on Friday with a hard fought 8-5 victory over their opponents from Skidmore.
- In the second round of the draw, the duo outlasted a pair from St. Lawrence by a score of 8-7 (7-5).
- Vassar's team of Sanjay Rajkumar (Olathe, KS) and Maximus Martin (El Paso, TX) dropped a tight 8-5 decision in the first round, but will compete in the quarterfinals of the consolation draw.
Singles
- In singles play, a trio of Brewers advanced to the Round of 16 in the main draw.
- Lee opened play in the singles draw with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Hobart's Achilleas Kousaridis and added a second win on Friday in a 6-3, 6-0 victory over TCNJ's Aidan Twamley,
- Choudhary advanced to the Round of 16 in the singles draw with a pair of victories.
- Choudhary won his opening match of the day in a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Bard and added a second victory with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over the opponent from Oneonta.
- First Year Eddie Zeng (Melissa, TX) was victorious in the First Round in a hard fought 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win over Baruch's Juan Mendoza and claimed a second victory in a tight 5-7, 6-2, 10-3 decision over NYU's Brian Hui.
