ROCHESTER, NY (February, 27, 2016) -
Daniel Cooper picked up his seventh singles win of the season, as the Vassar College men's tennis team fell on the road, 8-1, to University of Rochester on Saturday.
Cooper has now won four consecutive singles competitions after beating Ian Baranowski, 6-0, 7-5, for the number two spot.
Although the Brewers remained competitive throughout the day, they fall to 3-4 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-2.
Vassar fell behind 3-0 in doubles, but not without a fight. At No. 3 doubles,
Nick Litsky and
Gray Thurstone lost 8-2 to Masaru Fujimaki and Sam Leeman. Baranowski and Aaron Mevorach defeated Cooper and
Nick Zuczek, 8-5, in a close match at one before Ben Shapiro and Andrew Nunno took down
Evan Udine and
Alexander Luckmann, 9-7, in an even closer match at two.
Playing from behind,
Juan Felipe Laso fell 7-5, 6-2 to Leeman at No. 4 singles. Cooper gave the Brewers a chance for a comeback with a win at No. 2, but that would be the closest they would come to knocking off the Yellow Jackets.
Udine battled all the way to a super tiebreaker against Shapiro, but ultimately fell, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Litsky also forced a super tiebreaker, but lost 3-6, 7-6, 7-4, 6-2 to Fujimaki in the number one spot.
At No. 5 singles, Mevorach defeated
Jamie Anderson, 6-2, 6-0, and at No. 6, Nunno beat
Nick Lee, 6-1, 6-2.
The Vassar men's tennis team remains on the road to play at Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
