Vassar Women's Soccer Notes — Ramapo

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 19, 2016) — The Vassar College women's soccer team (7-6-1, 4-1-0 Liberty) returns home for a non-conference matchup against Ramapo College on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 3:30 p.m.

Last Time Out: Despite a well-fought effort, the Brewers fell 4-0 to an undefeated Williams Smith College last Saturday. Goalkeeper Stephanie Tapolsky faced 30 shots, snatching 11 saves throughout the game. Freshman Jordon Moss and Sophomore Amanda McFarland both found looks at goal, taking one shot a piece. 

A Look At The Brewers (7-6-1):
  • Rebecca Andrews once more found herself on the Honor Roll of this week's Liberty League release, as announced on Monday. The sophomore scored the game-winner in the Brewers' 1-0 victory over RIT. She currently leads the team in shots-on-goal, goals, and points. The full release can be read here
  • Vassar is currently second in the Liberty League standings with 15 points.
  • In the Hero College Sports News rankings, Vassar fell to No. 44 out of 440 Division III women's soccer teams.
  • According to Massey Ratings, Vassar's strength of schedule is the 19th hardest in the country out of 435 Division III women's soccer teams.
  • The Brewers' recent defeat breaks a five-game winning streak and marks the team's first loss in league play this year.
  • The Brewers have outshot opponents 205-150 overall and 103-74 in shots-on-goal. Of their 28 total goals, 19 have been assisted.
  • Vassar has picked up its aggression in the second half, scoring more than three times as many goals after the break, 22-6.
  • Rebecca Andrews has been stellar for the Brewers, notching 12 points through the first four games of conference play. The sophomore now leads the Brewers with 15 points on seven goals, which are tied for the fourth most finishes in the conference.
  • Savannah Cutler is finding her stride during her freshman campaign, notching four assists over the first four games of conference play. Those four helps are good for fourth in the league.
  • Stephanie Tapolsky has been solid in net for the Brewers, fending away 50 shots for a 7-6-0 record, including a shutout. Fellow keeper Phoebe Reuben has also spent time in the cage, making two saves for a 0-0-1 mark.
 
A Look At The RoadRunners (3-8-1):
  • Ramapo looks to continue its two-game winning-streak this Thursday after defeating Rutgers-Newark and New Jersey City University 1-0 and 2-1, respectively.
  • Gabrielle Gentilucci currently leads the team with four goals and eight points. Michaela Knockblock follows closely behind with three goals, two assists and eight points, while taking the most shots on the team with 34 looks at goal.
  • Goalkeeper Elizabeth Harvell has pushed away 60 attempts on goal over the last 12 games, earning two shutouts and a .632 save percentage.
  • Over the course of the season, the RoadRunners have been outshot and outscored by their opponents. Currently, they have taken 145 shots and earned 12 goals to their adversaries' 178 shots 35 goals.
  • Ramapo has caused substantial havoc on their opponents' offenses by utilizing the offside line to their advantage. They've caused an incredible 84 offsides in the season, an average of seven per game.
  • The squad has demonstrated a marked improvement in its second-half play, scoring twice as many goals and taking nearly thirty more shots than its overall first-half performances.
  • Last season, the team had an impressive year going 9-7-1. During the course of the season, the RoadRunners found the back of the net 44 times while conceding just 24. They also outshot their opponents 302-166 and earned more corner kicks.
  • After the loss of four seniors and other critical players, such as goalkeeper Jessica Cusick, the team continues to restructure and re-vamp the line-up.

Against Ramapo All-Time: This will mark the first encounter between the Brewers and the RoadRunners. 

Next Up: The Brewers play their final home game of the regular season, hosting Bard College on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 3:30 p.m. Following that meeting, Vassar will travel to Union College for the regular-season finale on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.
