What to Look ForThis past weekend, Vassar played a home-and-away four game series against the Raptors of Bard College. The Brewers dominated the first two games in Poughkeepsie, NY, winning 13-3 and 10-4 on Saturday. However, Bard managed to defend its home field, sneaking past Vassar 6-5 in both games on Sunday. With its conference slate over, the Brewers will finish out the season with four non-conference games, including senior day this Saturday, May 2 against John Jay
A Look at the Valiants (23-15, 14-7 Freedom)Manhattanville has enjoyed a relatively successful season so far. To open their season, the Valiants traveled to Myrtle Beach, SC, where they split their first six games at The Ripken Experience. The team then embarked on a marathon of games from Mar. 29 to Apr. 4, playing every day except for Mar. 31, going 3-5 over that span. Similarly, the team played all but two days from Apr. 8 to Apr. 19, going 8-5 over this next period. This past weekend, the Valiants won two of three games against Misericordia on Friday and Saturday, before sweeping a double header against John Jay. On Monday, Manhattanville also defeated King's 6-3 to extend their winning streak to four games.
The Valiants are led at the plate by sophomore Joe Anselmi with a .366 batting average, as well as a team-high .653 slugging percentage. Fellow sophomore Robbie Lynch is second on the team with a .345 batting average, and has recorded a team-high 49 hits, 40 RBIs, and nine home runs. Senior Bobby Guerra is hitting .320, and has had a team-high 14 doubles. On the mound, sophomore pitcher Dillon Healy has pitched a team-high 51.1 innings, and has a team-low 2.98 ERA, among pitchers with more than 15 innings pitched. Healy also has a team-high 6 wins, with just one loss on the season. Senior pitcher Joe Palmeri is second on the team with four wins and 41 total innings pitched, and currently has a 4.39 ERA.
Against Manhattanville All-TimeManhattanville currently leads the series 13-9, dating back to 1993. After playing every year from 1993 and 2006, except for 1997, the two teams did not meet again until 2013. The last Vassar win came on May 1, 2013, where the Brewers won 17-11. The last meeting in this series came on April 23, 2014, when the Valiants earned the 8-2 victory.

Kyle Casey (San Diego, CA/Vista) was very consistent over the weekend, recording a hit in all four games, including three the first game on Saturday. On the season, Casey is fifth on the team in batting average, hitting .323.
Hip Hop, CORY!Junior catcher
Cory Wuenschell (Pittsburgh, PA/Mount Lebanon) was outstanding on Saturday against Bard, going 5-for-7 at the plate, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the first game. On the season, Wuenschell is hitting .240, and is third on the team with 11 RBIs.
Adam BombOn the mound, sophomore pitcher
Adam Erkis (Villanova, PA/Radnor) pitched a complete game for the Brewers on Saturday, allowing just two earned runs in seven innings. After a slow start to the season, the 2014 Liberty League Pitcher of the Year has won two of his last three starts, and leads Vassar with 28 strikeouts.
Streaking ShannySophomore
Denis Shanagher (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) was a bright spot for the Brewers on Sunday, going 5-for-9, including 4-for-5 in the nightcap. Shanagher is batting .253 thus far this season.
Mrlik ManJunior
Johnny Mrlik (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) was a workhorse this weekend at the mound, throwing 127 pitches over nine innings and allowing just three earned runs to earn a complete-game victory on Saturday. The win was Mrlik's first of the season, improving his record to 1-3.
Up NextThe Brewers will end their season this weekend with three games, facing John Jay on Saturday, May 2, before taking on CCNY in a doubleheader on Sunday, May 3. Before the game against John Jay, the Brewers will have Senior Day, where the team's three seniors,
