Box Score 2 ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (April 26, 2015) – The Vassar College baseball team finished its 2015 Liberty League schedule on Sunday, dropping both ends of a conference doubleheader with Bard College 6-5 in action from Honey Field.
Bard 6, Vassar 5The Brewers dropped the first end of the Liberty League doubleheader with Bard, as the Raptors were able to score four runs over the last three innings to earn the home win.
Vassar opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, as the Brewers posted two runs with two outs. Freshman
Bobby Kinne (Great Barrington, MA/Monument Mtn. Regional) started the rally with a single, and came around on an RBI double by
Nick Johnson (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius Prep). Johnson would score three batters later on a wild pitch by BC starter Steve Marotta.
The host Raptors came right back with two runs in the bottom of the first, as Alex Montecalvo singled in a run and JP Fisher stole home later in the frame. Bard doubled its lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth, plating a pair of unearned runs. VC got a run back in the top of the fifth, as Kinne opened the inning with a double and scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-3.
After the Raptors tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth, Vassar tied the game in the top of the sixth on a two-run single by junior
Brooks English (Milton, MA/Milton Academy). Bard College pushed across what would be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth, as Jeff Goldrosen singled in David Schlosser, who had earlier reached on an error.
In the top of the seventh, senior
Kyle Casey (San Diego, CA/Vista) singled with one out, but Bard clinched the win with a double play. Kinne finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while English also added two hits for the Brewers. Junior
Jonathan Hong (Orinda, CA/Miramonte) went five innings, allowing three earned runs and seven hits.
Bard 6, Vassar 5Bard's Adam Carafotes posted a one-out double in the bottom of the 11
th inning to score Quinn McInerney and clinch a doubleheader sweep for the Raptors.
The Raptors scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a lead, but VC got on the board in the top of the sixth as
Denis Shanagher (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius Prep) tripled to start the frame and came in on a ground out by English. Bard made the score 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh, but again the Brewers rallied to tie the game in the top of the eighth.
Senior
Jason Garfinkel (Encino, CA/Harvard-Westlake) doubled to start the inning, and went to third on a bunt single by Shanagher. After English walked to load the bases, Kinne doubled in two runs on a shot to right-center. English scored Vassar's third run of the inning on a wild pitch, and the Brewers tied the game on a sacrifice fly by Casey.
Neither team would score again until the bottom of the 11
th inning, when Carafotes ended the game with his walk-off double. Shanagher led the way for the Brewers with four hits in five hits in game two, and Garfinkel added two hits as well. Vassar starter
Trent Berg (Milton, MA/Boston College) went 6.1 innings, striking out 10 batters while surrendering four earned runs.

The Brewers will head to Manhattanville College Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. to take on the Valiants for a non-conference contest.
