Box Score KINGSTON, NY (April 1, 2015) – Junior Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) finished with a game-high five goals, while eight other Brewers chipped into the scoring tally as Vassar defeated Bard College 17-8 Wednesday evening. The Brewers were dominant in the second half, outscoring the Raptors 10-3 while allowing just 10 shots to secure the victory. VC moves to 5-4 on the year and 1-2 in the Liberty League with the win, while Bard drops to 2-6 (0-3 LL).
Both sides traded goals early in the opening quarter, before Vassar took its first lead of the game on a goal from sophomore Matthew Altman (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) at the 3:12 mark. Up 3-2, the Brewers extended their lead to two on a goal from Parson less than a minute later to carry a 4-2 advantage into the second quarter.
VC went up by as many as three in the second, after a goal from sophomore Sam Houston-Read (Waban, MA/Newton South) made it 6-3 with 10:05 to play. Bard remained within striking distance, scoring the next two goals to pull within one with 7:28 to go. The Brewers made their last shot of the half count, as Houston-Read notched his second score of the game off a dish from junior Nick Page (Brookline, MA/Brookline) with two seconds left on the clock.
Vassar would push the lead to 8-5 at the start of the third quarter, as sophomore Chris Billups (Watchung, NJ/Oratory Preparatory) notched a man-up goal at the 12:22 mark. Bard cut the lead to 8-7 a few minutes later, as Matt Livermore and Blake Burnley posted a pair of goals for the Raptors with 7:40 left in the quarter.
The Brewers clamped down in the final minutes of the third, going on a three-goal scoring streak to end the quarter and carry a 11-7 lead into the fourth. Parson got the Brewers going with his second of the game at the 5:42 mark, while junior Colin Cederna (Milan, MI/Saline) and Billups added two more to put VC ahead by four heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
Senior Sean Brazier (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) and Parson kept the scoring spurt alive in the fourth, posting a pair of goals to make it 13-7 with 9:45 left to play. Bard called a timeout to try and stop the bleeding, and managed to get one back with a man-up goal from Burnley at the 8:27 mark.
Senior Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) bumped the advantage back to six with a goal at the 7:13 mark, while Parson's fourth of the game with 4:08 to play made it 15-8 Brewers.
Billups and Parson tallied two more in the final minutes, as Vassar secured the nine-goal victory to go back above .500.
The Brewers outshot the Raptors 45-28, and went 3-7 on extra-man opportunities. Bard goalie John Henry Glascok finished with 18 saves, while sophomore goalie Brandon Crecco (Carmel, NY/Mahopac) earned the win for Vassar.
VC will be back in action this Saturday, April 4 to host Liberty League opponent St. Lawrence at 1:00 pm. on Weinberg Field.

With his fifth goal of the night, junior Noah Parson moved into a tie for sixth all-time in points (101) with Nick Cardillo ('10). Parson now sits just one point behind Jack Gross ('12) in all-time points and Christopher Toffoli ('12) in all time goals (73).
