Box Score 2 ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (February 20, 2015) – The Vassar College men's volleyball team had no troubles Friday night in the first day of action at the Bard College Tournament, earning three-set wins over both College of Staten Island and City College of New York in action from Stevenson Athletic Conference. The Brewers topped CSI with scores of 25-5, 25-13 and 25-16, while earning a win over the Beavers 25-10, 25-14 and 25-13.
Vassar 3, Staten Island 0The Brewers used a balanced attack against College of Staten Island to earn the victory in the tournament's opener. Vassar College opened the match going 10-0-13 in the first set on the offensive side of the net, hitting a whopping .769 to take the early lead. The second game saw Vassar hit .458 while holding CSI to just two kills in the set, and finished off the Dolphins in the final set with 11 more kills.
The Brewers were paced offensively in the match by freshman
Matthew Knigge (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) with nine kills on 13 attempts, while sophomore
Quinn Rutledge (Chesterfield, VA/Cosby) finished with eight terminations on nine swings. Junior
Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) added five kills on seven attacks, while
Erik Halberg (Newark, DE/Salesianum School) posted three kills and a team-high five assisted blocks.
Freshman
Zechariah Lee (Santa Clarita, CA/Saugus) handed out 16 assists and posted five more service aces on the season, while fellow setter
Colin White-Dzuro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Royal St. George) added 12 assists, three digs and three blocks. Sophomore
Nick Zarchen (Santa Monica, CA/Santa Monica) posted a team-best seven digs in two sets of action.
Vassar 3, CCNY 0The Brewer's defense came to play in the second match of the afternoon, holding CCNY to -.016 hitting during the match in rolling to the win. Knigge posted a team-high nine kills on just 13 attempts, and fellow freshman
Jorge Rivera (San Juan, PR/Cupeyville) added eight kills and six digs. Kriz had team-bests of three aces and nine digs, adding six kills, and Lee and White-Dzuro combined for 29 helpers. The Brewers posted a hitting percentage of .311 against the Beavers, and chalked up nine more service aces.

The Brewers return to play tomorrow afternoon in the Bard Tournament, taking on The College of Mount St. Vincent at 1 p.m. in more play from the Stevenson Athletic Center.
