What to Look ForWednesday night could be a historic night in the Vassar College women's program, as junior guard
Caitlin Drakeley (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) currently has 983 total points coming into the week. Drakeley would become the 12
th player in program history to reach 1,000 in her career. Drakeley is averaging right around 17 points per game this season, so the milestone certainly is in play Wednesday evening.
A Look at the Raptors First year head coach Sarah Cartmill has done a great job improving the mentality of the program this season, but the Raptors haven't been able to cash in during the Liberty League so far. The Raptors are 0-14 in conference in 2014-15, but nearly pulled the upset on Rochester Institute of Technology, falling by eight this past Saturday. Bard is fifth in the conference in scoring defense, holding opposition to 60.3 points per game so far. The Raptors also force their opponents into 17.7 turnovers per contest.
Junior Tytravia Riley averages 13.3 rebounds and 14 points per game, making her the top rebounder in the Liberty League. She is one of the most dangerous inside defenders in the League, as shown by her 60 total steals so far this season. Fellow junior Bianka Bell, with 12 points per contest, leads her team in time on the floor with 36.2 minutes per game. She is the best long-range shooter for BC, averaging 1.5 threes per game.
Previous ContestIn their first meeting on January 6, the Vassar College women's basketball team out-rebounded Bard College 61-39, shaking off a slow start to knock off the visiting Raptors 60-40 in Liberty League play from the Athletics and Fitness Center.
All nine Brewers scored in a well-rounded effort by the home team, lead by Drakeley,
Zoe Walker, and
Colleen O'Connell, who all finished with 10 points.
Alex Moon (Mission Hills, CA/Bishop Alemany), who has since earned a starting spot, helped contribute to Vassar's 25 points off the bench.
Against Bard All-TimeVassar is undefeated against Bard all-time, winning the past 11 contests since their first meeting in 1996.
Rose BlocksJunior
Rose Serafini (Milton, Ontario, Canada/Milton Area), who had eight blocks in this weekend's games, averages 2.4 blocks per game which is second in the Liberty League. With 51 rejections this season, Serafini became Vassar's all-time single-season record holder.
Closing TimeCaitlin Drakeley has posted 10.2 points per game in the second half this season, making 44 percent from the field while leading the team in minutes per game in the second half with 17.5.
No Deep ThreatThis season in their ten wins, the Brewers have allowed teams to shoot just 19.7 percent from behind the arc. Overall, opponents have connected on just 30 of 152 threes in Brewer victories. In the other 13 games, Brewer opposition has made 34.9 percent from deep.
Freebie FrenzyComing into the weekend, the Brewers are currently second in the nation in free throw shooting, making 78.3 percent from the line. That trails just the 79.6 from Bowdoin College of the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Wins On WinsWith the victory Saturday on Senior Day, the Brewers earned their 10
th win over the season, marking the fifth straight year with double-digit wins.
Senior StarLone senior
Allyson Pemberton (Weston, MA/Weston) has led her team on the defensive end the entire season, boasting a team high 40 steals so far. She also posted double-digit scoring efforts in her last two games due to her hot shooting (10-17 from the field).
Road WoesThe Brewers have been at their best at home this season, while earning only one conference win on the road. But, with a two-win weekend under their belts, and a history of success in Annandale-on-Hudson, they hope to turn around their luck and push their win streak to three.
Up NextThe Brewers will host their last game of the season next Friday evening in the Athletics and Fitness Center at 6 p.m. against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
