Men's Lacrosse Falls To #9 Union College In Final Road Trip

SCHENECTADY, NY (April 19, 2014) – The Vassar College men's lacrosse team lost its final road game of the season to the #9 Dutchmen of Union College in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon on Frank Bailey Field by a score of 19-7.
 
Senior Max Herman (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) led the Brewers (6-8, 1-4 Liberty League) with two goals. No other Vassar player posted two points in the game. Charlie Ross led the Dutchmen (11-2, 4-1 Liberty League) with four goals from eight shots.
 
Passing and possession was an issue for the Brewers on Saturday. They turned the ball over 20 times compared to Union only turning it over 13 times. The Dutchmen were able to cause six of Vassar's turnovers while the Brewers only forced four. In terms of passing in the attack zone, Union was credited with assists on 10 of its goals. Vassar earned one assist from freshman Liam Moriarty (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield).
 
Other scorers for the Brewers were Brandon DeStasio (West Hempstead, NY/Chaminade), Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville), Chris Billups (Watchung, NJ/Oratory Preparatory) and getting his first collegiate goal, Gianni Gelormino (Matamoras, PA/Delaware Valley).
 
Senior Andrew Nicol (Carmel, NY/Brewster) recorded 16 saves out of the 35 Union shots on goal. Devyn Jefferies earned the win for the Dutchmen, playing the first 43:23 of the game, stopping nine shots and allowing four. Sam Broda came in for the remaining 16:37 with five saves and three goals allowed.
 
Union outshot the Brewers 58-40 and out-recovered ground balls 46-24. The faceoff players for each team combined to split all 26 starts down the middle, 13-13.
 
The Brewers will next finish their season with one last game at Gordon Field for Herman and Nicol on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 pm. Vassar welcomes to Senior Day the Golden Knights of Clarkson University for its final Liberty League game of the year.
