TROY, NY (March 22, 2014) – The Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute snapped the Vassar College men's lacrosse team's two-game winning streak with a score of 17-3 Saturday afternoon at the ECAV Stadium.
Junior
Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) was the first Brewer to score on the day. Brekne's goal came at 4:28 in the second quarter. Sophomore
Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) grabbed a pass from freshman
Liam Moriarty (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) with 11:41 left in the third quarter and continued both of their point streaks with the 2-9 goal.
Sophomore
Colin Cederna (Milan, MI/Saline) rounded the scoring out for the Brewers (3-3, 0-1 Liberty League) with a goal from Parson with 8:39 left in the final period. Cederna's goal brought the Brewers within the Engineer (5-2, 1-0 Liberty League) total, 3-14 before two goal's from RPI's Aaron Shavel and another from Matt Krecicki locked out any hope of a Vassar comeback.

T.J. Morrow (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair), and freshmen
Matthew Altman (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) and
Sam Houston-Read (Waban, MA/Newton South) all put offensive pressure on the Engineers with a total of nine shots.
The Brewers were edged out in the ground ball game 33-24 and were led by Moriarty's four recoveries. Brekne and
Eric Prezioso (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge) both had three. Ben Piersak led the Engineers with five.
RPI's offense found more opportunites having ripped 45 shots compared to Vassar's 29. Breanainn McNeally had the game-high four goals off of six shots. Patrick Finn had three scores from five fires and Chaz Bell shot seven times, finding net twice.
Senior
Andrew Nicol (Carmel, NY/Brewster) recorded 12 saves on 29 shots on goal for the Brewers. Alex Castronovo had six saves and allowed all three of Vassar's goals. Anthony De Los Reyes came into the game for the final seven minutes and stopped two Brewer shots.
The Brewers will next travel to Newburgh, NY on Wednesday, March 26 for a 7:00 pm start against the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College before returning to their home field on Saturday, March 29 against Skidmore College at 1:00 pm. The home field is still yet to be determined between either Wienberg Turf Field or the natural surface of Gordon Field.
